The players surely have to know the score, it's a chance for them to get European match time and develop as players, so there's that. Not too comfortable with it myself though.

Probably, take this example, this chap was playing for a club I've never heard of after failing to make the grade at Real, could well have been destined for the football scrap heap until City came in and snapped him up. He's now got a decent loan move to a side that'll be playing in Spain's top tier this season, a second chance thanks to him linking up with City which opens up a number of avenues for him and we make a few quid out of it too.
