Yes, he did. I suggested this on BM about a month ago and was called crazy, but he has many of the attributes, and then I read on CityWatch about two weeks ago that this could be a valuable idea.

I don't think Pep sees Yaya as anything other than an attacking midfielder at this point though. He can get caught out for pace and I don't think he wants to be anywhere but in the final third of the pitch.

but he really didn't tho...he played there in a pinch due to massive injuries to basically 3 CBs at the tail end of a season and one match he happened to play in was a CL final vs the Rags which they won. And he was decent. For sure. But he's not "played there under Pep" in any consistent fashion to act like it's a position he was favored in. That's complete horseshit.

I think it would be about as dumb an idea as i could envision.

cheers

Like playing Kolarov at CB ?

Yaya still a world class passer of the ball and this is what pep wants at the back no ? One thing is for sure it is going to take pep a while to mould this squad into what he wants and I am guessing there are another 2 or 3 more players to come in before the transfer deadline . Pep could also blow us all away with Saturdays line up ........ we will see ;-)

I actually think it's his composure with the ball that makes him stand out even more so as a centre half under Pep. I suggested that that with the passing ability could make him an even more dangerous Bonucci with through balls, etc.

Problem, again, is I doubt Yaya wants to play as a defender again, and defenders in Pep's system, as you can see now, run around a lot and need some pace/quickness which Pep himself alluded to as to why Fernandinho could play there. Yaya is surely lacking this now, and is needed because of the adventurous approach we will take in case someone loses the ball from time to time. Also, Yaya as big as he is does not really put his head on the ball at this point in his career either.

Has Pep that much confidence, he can coach his system. Bayern had a number of players playing 1st receiver, Nuer was passing the ball into a central area to a number of players Alonso, Lahm, Even wingers got it off him, Is Pep using the pre-season games for the geeks to record and then educate the players and drill them in what is required. I trust Pep whatever happens he is going to nail all comers all be it from worse starting point with the back 3 still not set.

It was my mate Sean. He reads Cheshire Today whilst having breakfast in Gregg's.
