And since then the media have ridiculed/hounded/derided every England manager since then in some way. Then wonder why the top coaches of the world don't want the job.

It really is THE worst job in world football. I've always said it. Unreasonable expectations, pretty average squad (compared to expectations) for past decade at least and no matter what you do "media" will always find way to ridicule you in bona fide school bully style. Why would ANYONE bother with crap like that?

"Turnip head" for crying out loud. I would never tolerate my children calling anyone something like that yet it was apparently quite alright to print it on "newspaper". Jeezes.

Just one of a multitude of reasons why I would never pay ANY money to ANY of Murdoch's sprawling media conglomeration.

Likewise JL.

In my time of following football, Taylor was the most unanimously appointed England manager I can remember. The public and the media had him as a shoe in for the job. The way he was treated by the media following that was truly disgraceful. He built great sides at Watford and Villa. A really talented manager. RIP
