Given that the best teams, the title winners, have a strong defence and therefore don't need to score so many to win, do you think that Pulis or Fat Sam, both managers who construct solid defences as the basis of their tactics, would have done better or worse this season than Guardiola with the resources available?
Are you serious? Or is this a wind up.
Strange poster this guy JL for sure ! Some stuff very good and intelligent whilst other stuff off the fucking scale and totally bizarre ???
Luv ya too City64.
Well it was a hypothetical question. Just thinking outside the box...
Do you think Guardiola would have done better this season if he'd been less dogmatic and more pragmatic? If he'd taken on board how the English game is played? If he'd realised the qualities needed of a PL goalie? If he'd organised his aged defence into a ...er, a defence? If he'd recognised the strengths and weaknesses of this squad (and youths) and adapted his tactics to their strengths? In short, if he'd been a bit more like Pulis or BFS and a bit less like an know-it-all whilst he evaluated his squad and gradually introduced the changes in tactics that he wanted to see?
We would probably be sixth and following a similar trajectory as the rags are. The football will have been functional and in large parts, especially in games v our rivals, very defensive and dull. We would have scored far less goals and likely not be looking forward to a cup semi final. But at least the club shop would have done better trade

Its all been pretty shit this season, sticking navas at right back epitomises how far backwards we gone, along with the serial fucker upper Clichy it can't get much worse.

It's purely opinions of course for a hypothetical situation, but I disagree about the necessarily fewer goals. Pulis and BFS have had to play with the squads that they've had, which haven't been of the quality of City's current attacking players, so who knows how many goals we'd score if we were more defensive-minded but still had a rapid counter-attack force. Shades of Leicester City even?!

Doing a "Leicester" under BFS or Pulis might be stretching it a little!
Leicester won the league with 68 goals which I would imagine is fairly low for champions. Can't see how we wouldn't score less under Pulis or BFS

This to me is the problem with sending so many of our potential talents out on loan. Would Maffeo have done any worse than Navas or Fernandinho at right back? Probably not but now we'll never know if they are good enough because they haven't been tried but we've proved that right back is just another position that Navas cannot play. Keep the first tier of youngsters at the club and training with the first team every day, give them game time in games that are either won or lost so there isn't too much pressure on them but don't send them out to some second rate club who feels they are compelled to play them but offers them little in support in terms of coaching and tactical awareness.
