We don't have anyone near good enough to man mark him. Cut the balls coming to him from midfield and frustrate him is the way to go. No way on earth that they'll end up with 11 on the pitch if we get hold of midfield, they've too many hot-heads and spoilt bastards. Agree with that basic premise. The same would happen to any single player tasked with that job

Rooney has license to roam way way too much left and right back and forward to give one player that job. There should be a game plan to deal with him but it is all about giving him not too much time on the ball for me. It's about pressing the ball hard in general though, whether it's him or someone else.

It is crucial that he is not afforded too much time or space. We give him that and he will hurt us
