In one respect Taggart is right (As much as I loathe to admit it)

If it wasn't for Givens outstanding display they would have scored 6/7

He really is true class and there will be many games this season where we will win the points because of him

I truly think he will make the difference to get us into the top 4

Agreed. We are so lucky to have him.

When you think of all the bad keepers that Arsenal and United have had in the time that Given was at Newcastle we should count or blessings to have a keeper of that quality in the sticks.

it's been a while since we had a keeper who was "worth a goal a game" and this fella was worth 3 yesterday, like you say.
Great teams have keepers like Shay, so I hope you're right, and think you are

Devils Advocate time. First though I do think Shay is awesome and I would not swap him for any keeper in the prem. But was he that awesome yesterday?
He made a good save with his feet from Giggs , 2 saves from Berbaflop which he headed fairly straight at him and then pushed one over from Giggs which was straight at him.Of course they were all good saves but not that special and what we all would expect a decent keeper to make.

The best in the premier league.

Probably the best in the world but unfortunately, its damn hard to measure keepers from the likes of Italy and Spain against each other and those from England, given the defensive minded Italians and differing elements in Spain.

Its easy to say Buffon and Cassilas are better, because they play for the world and European champions... however, at club level, I don't see how both of these could have done anymore for us than Shay has so far.

God Bless you Seamus.

i kind of agree with you Dougie. the one i needed him to make was on Owen's ball. the berbatov stops were down to berbatov not having any fucking ability in the air. I *do* believe another keeper could easily have let one of those in though, so dont misunderstand how i feel about Shay. I think he's fantastic...just wish he could have found that something special to keep Owen out. it's asking a lot i know, but...it would have changed our lives yesterday and for a while to come for sure.

I'm a massive fan of his but all the saves yesterday were fairly routine.

how many saves did given make? according to my paper this morning scum had 8 shots on target and scored 4 of them
we had 4 on target and scored 3 plus hit the woodwork, although we played bad in the second half we never looked like getting a heavy beating

Really? i thought we surely did for about 30 minutes in the 2nd half. Everytime the scum touched the ball we looked ready to concede. And i think Hughes did too if i consider the television shots of him flipping the fuck out on the touchline waving his hands like a maniac.

Sorry - but I think that is a terrible comparison

Would Foster have any England recognition if he did not play for the rags - no

I am of course only joking with you - but Shay deserves to be compared with the worlds best ever - not some muppet
