How far back does your memory go?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

How far back does your memory go?

Postby Kladze » Tue Jul 26, 2011 11:58 am

Who was the first City player you can remember idolising?

Was discussing this earlier with an old friend of mine. For him it was Roy paul.

Me?

David Wagstaffe, a young winger we had in the mid 60s who was fucking awesome - in my eyes at least.

Needless to say, we were skint and had to sell him to Wolves.

Bobby Johnstone. My dad once ran into him in Yates's Wine Lodge in Blackpool while I was stood outside with a bag of Smith's crisps (they did that in those days) and he came out to say hello.

Sold him to Wolves so we could afford some floodlights apparently!

How about Derek Kevan,Colin Barlow,Johnny Crossan but I always thought Alan Oakes was top class.

How about Derek Kevan

That fucker hit a 25 yard pile-driver at the goal I was stood behind when I was about 7.
It missed and hit me in the stomach. I'm still feeling winded to this day ........

Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

For me it was Peter Barnes. I really wanted to play like him on the wing and would practice dropping my shoulders and going past players all the time as a kid. Loved the sight of him dancing down the line, jinking in and out of defenders. If Johnson can get as good as him we would have a player. Bumped into Barnsey a few times now at the stadium......not literally of course, cos I can still drop my shoulder and avoid bumping into people.

Paul Walsh or Peter Beagrie- can't remember when Beagrie first started his backflips.

This. The exact same two. Until Kompany came along, Watson had remained the best centre half Ive seen for us.
