Your favourite uneventful goals

Postby Pretty Boy Lee » Fri Sep 23, 2011 2:59 am

Name the ones that aren't necessarily famous for winning us a big game or even winning, but you love all the same.

Heres mine

Petrov's right foot toe poke at Fulham
Stevie irelands 30 sec screamer away to Hamburg
Big Nige's broken duck
Robinho's 1st against Chelsea
The Vass at Sunderland
Sylvinho in the cup. Was it Scunny?
Micahs dummy and goal at Stoke
Tracking back is overrated.

I call that West Ham day "new hope"

It didn't last completely but I reckon I rewatched that game 10 times.

I think you're referring to the one where he completely scuffs his shot in a one-on-one in the 90th minute but it somehow goes in and we win 2-1.

I was at that game. It was an appalling match for 80 minutes then we scored and the atmosphere around the whole ground just electrified. They scored a couple of minutes later and it was end-to-end for the remainder of the game. Then Vass scored and runs off celebrating with an air of confidence like he'd just scored a rocket into the top corner from 30 yards.

Ah...the good old days :-)

I am indeed referring to that wonderful solo effort. I beleive you see the expression "ahh fuck it" accross his face right before he fires up those glorious double guns that sent us all wild!

Remember a Tarnat free kick against Blackburn too i think.

Any help on the Jensen goal would be appreciated!

Gerry Creaney's late free-kick to beat Charlton 2-1 in Sept 1996. He celebrated so wildly it was the quickest I ever saw him move, though he burned himself out with the celebration and was only later seen driving a taxi in Glasgow.

I don't remember ever celebrating a goal like I celebrated The Chop's winning header against Newcastle at the tail end of 03/04. Totally arrested our slide towards the drop. LIke Mpenza's goals at Boro and Newcastle three years later, this is one of the most underappreciated goals in the club's history.

The way I read the thread was inconsequential goals, ones that didn't affect the outcome, of which a lot of these are not.

I thought he meant forgotten goals/goals with litle fanfare. Having looked at the OP's own list I think you're right, but it wasn't clear.

EDIT: If we're on about great goals of little consequence, then surely Elano's stunner at Boro in the 1-8 has to be the winner.

Another for me is Distins long run at Newcastle.
