Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has threatened to quit after a furious bust-up over transfers.

QPR manager Redknapp has had massive rows with their chief executive Philip Beard, who has been left in charge of player recruitment for next season by chairman Tony Fernandes.

Redknapp is desperate to bring free-agent defender Wayne Bridge to Loftus Road, and the Hoops' failure to agree a deal for the former England left-back sparked a huge behind-the-scenes argument that engulfed the club.

Angry Redknapp could now walk as QPR struggle to get big earners off the books following their relegation from the Premier League, leaving them reluctant to bring in new signings - even free transfers.

Former Tottenham boss Redknapp is now seeking showdown talks and assurances from Fernandes.

In an attack on Beard and the club’s new transfer policy, the 66-year-old said: “If we don’t change it, and I don’t get the players that I want to bring in, then we have not got a chance.

“You can’t have other people having a say at all, I’m a football person and I’ve got a staff around me of football people.

“We’ve got to make the decisions, and if we make the right ones we will have a chance. Otherwise, if other people want to make decisions we’ve got no chance.

“If I don’t get that, then I wouldn’t stick around.

Stately Wayne manner: Redknapp has sent up the Bat-Signal for Bridge
Ben Hoskins

“I’ll speak to Tony Fernandes. They’ve got to back me with the people I want.

“I’m not asking him to spend money, I’m looking at a couple of free transfers.

“I’m trying to get Wayne Bridge, I thought he did fantastically well with Brighton, he’d be a good left-back for us.

“He’s got great experience, looks in great shape and is a player I want to bring in on a free. I’m hoping that’s the first deal I can do.

“Tony is away, but I’ll speak to him and see if we can get the deal done.”

Bridge, 32, is available after his contract finally expired at Manchester City, following three seasons spent largely out on loan at West Ham, Sunderland and, most recently, Brighton.

But QPR are now likely to miss out on signing him because he has offers from other clubs.

Ta.

Bridge actually got in the Champo team of the year if I remember rightly, so if he's available on a free and they give him a 1- or 2-year deal it could be good business.

That doesn't change the fact that he should've shopped more sensibly in January. Everyone knew they were going down. The Samba money would've been better spent on a long-term prospect like Jordan Rhodes or that kid from Derby, both of whom would've been good players at Champo level next season and commanded much lower wages. If he wanted a centre-half, WBA might've done business over Craig Dawson.

He's made his own bed.

Bridge's wage demands will be huge for the championship. It's not free just because it's a free transfer- not that I expect Harry to understand that. He has a dog as an accountant.

His wage demands won't be what they were. When people have a chance of working for less or not working at all, they tend to opt for the former. Dropping down a division proved that he's still got the desire to play. He did well at Brighton last season and would be a good bet for a Champo club on a one-year deal or a two-year PAYP.

But if he was smart with his money then he doesn't have to work at all. If people have the choice to chill in their mansion/travel the world or work hard everyday for less than they were formerly getting paid they tend to opt for the former.

QPR desperately need some players of real character for next season. Bridge sat on the bench for five years at Chelsea hiding behind Cole and promptly got found out when he came to us. He then happily ran out his big fat contract meaning he has spent ten years with no interest in being a proper footballer. He did not pull up any trees at Brighton.

He is exactly the sort of player QPR should NOT be signing. I am with their board on this one.

Bridge made it into the Championship team of the year. Besides winning the Championship player of the year, there was no higher personal accolade available to him.

What would you class as 'pulling up trees'? He's a left-back for fuck's sake.
