Marquee signing

Postby zabbadabbado » Tue Jun 25, 2013 11:02 pm

Marquee signing.

100% Convinced we are going to make one. Tevez going is good business; our style will mean we will be playing with wide players, and a lone striker.

Selling Tevez Frees up a very hefty weekly wage.

I think we are going to blow the Football World away by springing a mega star right out off the blue. The first we will all know about it will be when the deal is done. Those flapping now will be praising the 2 Spaniards in the next couple of weeks, I promise.

So I am going to sit back and enjoy the ride and wait until it happens.keep the faith blues.

I don't think we will. We had to do that early on to get to where we are, but now I think it'll be a mix of young players and good players.

Saying that, it depends what you class as 'marquee'? We need a striker and with Falcao gone, that leaves Cavani or Suarez or a drop to the next level. Cavani could maybe be 'marquee', but I'm not sure he's a shirt seller across the world, just very expensive.

I hope not. He makes Dzeko/Mario look like Tevez. And his wages at PSG are huge. Brilliant when he can be bothered, but no. Plus I think it was Mancini who had the crush on him, so I imagine he'd be further down our list these days

I think we all love marquee signings for the instant high it gives us, and a stick to beat other teams over the head with.
However, in my opinion, the most successful signings we have made of the current first team, are those who came with a lesser but growing reputation.

Think of HART, KOMPANY, ZABS who really didn't raise many eyebrows, but have become the mainstays and rocks of the team, and it maybe said, the most loyal and likely those destined to stay the longest..I think NASTASIC is also going to be included in that bracket.
What I am saying is that if we can strike gold again with one or two 'under the radar' prospects, I won't be complaining, rather than just looking for names..A balance of youth, potential with a few finished products is the master blend.

Just think in the pre-Sheikh days we'd be closing in on Darren Bent, Jermaine Defoe or even more as likely Emile bloody Heskey. Shudders.

We are sure to have some guy roped in soon. There is a pole we are looking at so there is no need to get too tents and in a flap. They know what is at stake and will have this pegged before it turns into a circus. There are probably people working under cover on this right now.

Do you just pop up on here to tell people they're wrong or mock these days or do you still have an original thought from time to time?

P.s. I think "marguee signings" are past now. They were mainly done to introduce us to worldwide audience. Which we have succeeded. I think we will only aim to improve the team and do it by affordable deal. Whereas we were blowing people out of the water before now if someone comes with a bid that we think is too much we seem to move to other targets.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

To people who say we won't sign a marquee player.

We have shifted well over 300k in wages and made over 35+ million from the sales of Balotelli and Tevez alone.

Then add the Champions League Money and the added extra Prem money this year...

AND then add the stated club ambition to have a real go at the Champions League this year. The funds exist to make it happen.

I would be extremely disappointed in the club if they don't make a big transfer this year.

We NEED a big signing to spark the club into action this year. It is vital we crush the Scum this season and prevent them from even contemplating building another Fergie dynasty.

It is our time now, we, as a club, have to make that clear.
