David Moyes was philosophical after this defeat. There's no doubt he would have wanted to get off to a winning start but he was severely hampered in his team selection, with Robin van Persie, Nani, David de Gea, Javier Hernandez, Nemanja Vidic and Wayne Rooney all unavailable.
In their absence, 18-year-old Adnan Januzaj shone in midfield for United while Wilfried Zaha was unlucky not to score an equaliser on his debut, his shot hitting the post.
Perhaps there's some solace for Moyes in the fact that his predecessor, Sir Alex Ferguson, also lost his first game in charge of the club.
A 2-0 loss at Oxford United back in November 1986 was no portent of the trophies that would follow. Moyes will hope that such symmetry with Ferguson continues.

They failed to mention entirely that Ferdinand, Evans, Cleverley, Carrick, Anderson, Giggs and Welbeck all started with Evra, Jones and Rafael all coming off the bench. Zaha played all of 27 minutes and the story made it seem like he was leading the line amongst a bunch of kids.

Do you know what, that's the way I was viewing it before I read your post. I didn't watch, nor read anything on it but it does go to show how spin can paint such a different picture.
Weren't they playing the Thai National team as well?
The Scot named a strong side for the friendly fixture in Bangkok, with Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs all starting. Wayne Rooney was absent though after the England striker flew home from Asia in the week with a hamstring injury.
United almost suffered a nightmare opening after just three minutes, as a long ball found Teeratep Winothai, but he took too long to get an effort in on goal. Jonny Evans made up ground to dispossess the striker and spare the tourists' blushes.
As the first half went on, United began to dominate, although both sides had good chances to score and it was the hosts who perhaps had the best opportunity.
Winothai again had the chance after a well executed lofted pass and Ben Amos was forced into a strong reaction save to ensure the sides went in goalless at half-time.
However, just four minutes into the second period, the All Star XI were ahead thanks to a strike from the dangerous Winothai.
The 28-year-old beat Amos at his near post to give his team a surprising, but not undeserved, lead.
United brought on Wilfried Zaha later in the half to try and inject some energy into their play, but Moyes' men struggled to break down a resolute home defence.
The former Crystal Palace man had a great opportunity to draw his side level on 81 minutes but headed wide from a deep Fabio cross.
A minute later, Zaha again threatened but saw his effort cannon back off the post, meaning Moyes started his Old Trafoord career with a defeat.

We get SSN showing every few hours over here and I thought I'd tune in to see what they had to say seeing that they had plenty on it pre-game. Alas, there was nothing said and even though they showed/reported various other friendlies, the Rags loss didn't get a mention.

Lucky so-and-so. Got a soft spot for the Germans, especially their philosophers. North or south?

Was in Berlin last week. Top city. Prob the capital city with the worst football teams in relation to the rest of the country or am I mistaken?
