Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

2 Annoyances

Postby Londonblue » Mon Jan 13, 2014 8:04 pm

1. Pulis' players in-game routines
A dead ball situation (free-kick or corner). Their player stands over it, looks up, bends down, touches the ball, takes 3 paces back then kicks it. WTF is all that shite about? Since when did anyone anywhere in football get taught that's how you take a kick? And he wears a baseball cap. Idiot

2. OS commentator
Living away from the UK, this is one of the only ways to watch highlights, so the fact that the guy with the mic is a moron really irritates me. Not just his overuse of every player's name, but the pronunciation he uses. He can't help his speech impediment (Vs instead of THs) but he can help ludicrous use of names and nicknames

Shielding the ball for a goalkick. It's apparently okay in the modern game for you to foul a striker under the guise of shielding the ball out of play and get away with it time and time again. If they tried half the shit they do whilst 'shielding' from behind the striker, they'd be giving away freekicks and penalties left, right and centre. We place too much credit and protection to the guy in front these days and as a result, the art of tackling has been lost from the game. Herding seems to be the better description for what they do now, and I am all for an official name change of defenders to centreherders and fullherders. Maldini must be pulling his hair out, had it been him in Mbiwa's position on Sunday he would have timed the tackle better so he got the ball, kept his feet on the ground and not at knee height and stood up with the ball at his feet. You think anyone in the Premier League even has a notion of how he did those sorts of things? No no, push him onto his weaker foot, crowd him out, get the ball. Fucking hell, that's how we used to play when we were 6yo FFS. Which leads me to the other tactic that Newcastle employed on the weekend, the body rush. Where in the game does it say that you can just run through the back of a player in order to get the ball, no attempt to tackle at all, just make sure after you miss the ball that the player feels it and has to pick himself up off the ground? This bullshit madness doesn't appear in any other major league apart from England, lesser teams constantly fouling better players in the jewel in the anti-football crown that is the 'modern game'. You know who doesn't pull this shit? Footballing teams, Villa, West Ham, etc. And until this weekend, I believed Newcastle, but after YFOC Pardew got ahold of them, obviously the idea that you play the ball has gone completely out the window. More and more we are seeing the likes of Stoke and Sunderland populate the league in a game where it's more important to stay in the league that to actually play football. I think if they closed the doors on live attendances tomorrow, the clubs in the top division would shrug their shoulders and find out if they could get more money for the 400,000 people no longer attending matches from the broadcasters. And you wonder why players are on £200,000/week, sadly this is a spiral that at the moment seems to have no end. £42 for an away ticket to a dead rubber? FFS, makes you wonder how these owners aren't being charged with robbery. I hope no City fan shows up, I hope half the WHU fans don't show up either. Eh, bored now.

The horrible inconsistency with hand ball calls.

Some weeks it has to be deliberate.

Some weeks it's if the hands are not by your side.

Some weeks it's if it stopped play.

Make your fucking minds up.

To the OP. Tony Pulis looks like Charlie Chaplin's tramp on the touchline. Only he's not funny and it's impossible to empathise with him. So that just makes him a tramp.

Apart from diving (which I think pisses off everyone) I'd have to go for screaming when players get tackled (or not). I heard suarez in CB3 at Christmas (with his high-pitched wail) and he hadn't even been touched. Fucking hate it.

The thread is titled 2 Annoyances. You are only allowed two at a time if you're going to play along.

1. Players standing inside the 10 yards when a free kick has been given in an attempt to slow play down. It should be a yellow card.

2. Throw ins taken 20 yards downfield from where the ball went out. It should be a yellow card or the throw gets rescinded to the other team.

1. People accepting "professional fouls" as a part of the game. They stop some of the best moments of a game by turning a fast break and potential goal scoring chance into a meaningless free kick from midfield with the other team behind the ball. Should be criticized just as bad as diving. Ruins the game.

2. People acting as if there is such as thing as a set formation. You can come out with all these formations like 4-2-2-2, 4-2-3-1, or 4-3-2-1 all you like. But don't act like you can accurately identify which team is playing which, understand the team's tactics based on those arbitrary numbers, or that you can identify a difference between each number combination. In reality, each team usually has at least 3 "formations": defensive, transitional, and possession (usually depending on what 1/3 of the field we're in). For example:

- When defending we play with a back row of 4, the two CMs in front of our CBs, the other 2 mids in front of the CMs and in between the fullbacks and CBs, one forward centered back in front of the midfield, and the other forward up top as an outlet.
- In transition, 2/3 mids usually push forward with one of the fullbacks and both forwards, while the other mid(s) look to provide support and cover.
- Then in possession, our CMs drop just ahead of and in between our CBs, the CBs push wide, the fullbacks move up in between the midfield and forwards, and the other 2 mids usually move inside.

I'm probably not 100% correct with all the details above, but the point is that the 4-4-2 number that gets thrown around is the average/dumbing down of a much more complicated system/set of instructions. So when people (and especially pundits) argue that a manager should simply play a 4-5-1 instead of a 4-3-2-1, they are talking out of their arse and are full of shit.

Like when people such as jamie redknapp say, "Pellegrini has been going with more of a classic 4-4-2 recently," as if what we play has any resemblance to the ol' English 4-4-2 from the 1980s. The only thing in common is that we have 2 strikers and 4 defenders. Everything else, including how those strikers and defenders play together, is completely different. It reeks of trying to force relevance and significance on a way of playing that died long ago. Talking out their arse and full of shit.

1) Teams that have to play music when they score. They should be docked points for it.

2) Commentators/pundits/media hacks who consistently name drop Utd into any conversation to try and maintain the profile and image of how "massive" they are. The sycophants and armchair saddos from Bournemouth to Bangor just lap it up - those of us with more than a single brain cell see it for what it is, an agenda.
