I've said before on here that the best way to counter this would be a 16-team Premier League competition played around the world, with the 3 newcomers/relegated teams and the team that starts European qualification earliest (this season Burnley) left out. First round and QFs (if not the whole competition) should definitely be pre-season, with fixtures auctioned to the highest bidder before the draw is made. I reckon that'd blast the $10m or whatever the teams get for the Super-Champions-Select tour we do in the US out of the water, give the teams lower down the table a slice of the pie, and reduce the number of pre-season matches played abroad, allowing us to play a couple against local teams, too. I also reckon it'd be hard for other competitions to out-market it.

Around the time that the 39th game was mooted I suggested to those who opposed it that they should have just accepted as it was inevitable and the least worst scenario if you were that way inclined. I foresee a scenario where an entire Premiership weekend is held across the globe, starting off with a breakfast game in Australia, with a game every two hours around the globe finishing off with an evening game in LA.

Personally, couldn't care less if a game is held in America. The Europa League final is held in Baku this year which I am pretty sure is as far away to Manchester as NYC and a lot harder to get too. I don't know why they haven't tried to play the CL final in the States yet. A 2-3 trip to Kiev or Baku or New York or Boston?

I can see a scenario similar to this but more in line with the Super-Champions idea working. In 5/10 years time a competitive match between LA Galaxy verses City and Barcelona verses NY Red Bulls will make a lot more commercial success than City verses Burnley in Beijing. Since the day that Qatar were picked the host the Word Cup I've believed that a tournament of this nature was the long-term strategy of the clubs.

I see your point, and agree that UEFA will probably try to (if they haven't done so already) find a way to make exceptions in the quest for profit, but I think from a sporting perspective there's a huge difference between holding a final in Baku and the States.

Big difference of course being, one is the final of the Europa or Chumps league and the other is just an ordinary league game. We play our home league games at the Etihad. European finals are played at a neutral ground. Don't give a fuck about that and its up to me whether I can be arsed and can afford to go to that game. Why should we lose the advantage of a home game and why should the fans miss out on attending a home game?

Well it looks like La Liga and Relevent Sports (US marketing partner) got ahead of themselves with this announcement. They need to get approval from FIFA, CONCACAF and USSF to play a match in the U.S. Reports are coming out that both CONCACAF and USSF won't approve the match.
