I think we would build up, not out, with regards to a stadium expansion.

That would depend on whether the present foundations could safely take the extra weight of the extra building. If not, they would possibly have to build out and over as they have at the swamp.
Not a builder, so don't know any better.

I'm sure I read that Belle Vue Aces speedway maybe having a re-development too. Not sure if the two would be related but it is good to hear that the East of Manchester is to benefit from redevelopment.

The rumour about us using the CA site has been pretty persistant for the past 6 months but to be honest I don't think there is anything on that side of the road that wouldn't be susceptible to taking a developers money to shuffle off.

Interesting in that article that she talks about the CA site in particular and then refuses to comment on specific sites when they ask about City :-)

Residents around COMS had this posted through their letterboxes on Thursday:

"The Club is proposing an exciting new development to the north of the stadium (near to the tennis centre).

We have recently submitted a planning application to Manchester City Council, regarding the use of Joe Mercer Way and the North Plaza of the Sportcity site. Our proposal for this area is a concept called City Street, which is designed to enhance visitors experience to football matches and other events at Sportcity by creating an area for food, retail and entertainment.

The development of City Street will ease congestion in the area surrounding the Stadium before and after games/events and in addition will create a number of jobs. Our aim is that City Street is open and fully functioning for the 2010/11 season.

Over the next few weeks you can see the outline proposal for City Street in the MCFC retail store at Sportcity, where you can review the plans. Should you have any specific enquiries pleas contact me on the details below.

I have made dozens of calls, emailed people I know and got very little (as you will know from my posts).

The Council, NEM and MCFC have done an amazing job keeping this quiet and salute them, well done people.

However I have got some bits and pieces that when added together may at least whet our appetites. These include some educated guesses and to be honest its the best I can do for now.

1. There will be a tall structure as part of the plans (possibly more than one, but one eye-catching design)

2. Whatever happens will be family oriented and according to some on here NOT a casino.

3. The hotel will not be franchised or low rent, so no Holiday Inn Express or Travellodge - it is likely to be 4 or 5 star to take the quality of the area and the project upscale. City will own and run the hotel.

4. The destination will create many jobs and a training programme via Manchester College (Formally MANCAT) will be in place and include the PEARL Award (I am fully aware of this but will not say any more at present so DONT ask) and tie into the Manchester Standard - http://www.worldclassservice.co.uk/

5. There is a strong possibility that an iconic UK attraction will re-locate or have a sister site in Manchester -

Leeds has the Armoury
Tate Liverpool and Cornwall
Trafford has IWMN

I reckon we may well get a British Museum North, National Gallery North or a New Natural History Museum or V and A or perhaps even a mix of them all.

The Manchester Museum could relocate as well of course?

6. There could well be an extension to the current canal infrastructure with additional wharfs being added.

Whether that is for show or useable with a connection to the national canal network is not clear.

7. A Virtual Reality attraction is likely be in there and as I have good contacts at Teesside Un' as well as the Manchester Uni's I know for a fact that a feasibility study has been requested by an unnamed client.

Work on City Street to be finished ready for 2010-11 season is a quick turnaround. Be interested to hear more about what the proposals may be. Might even pop down to City and have a look.
