Only just seen this thread.
Straight after the 'tackle' I rang my mate up and we had a laugh about it!
I actually think he got the ball.

I doubt he will get many games for us this year....probably be used in the Europa cup,LC against some hacker teams from norway or division 2.

well i would definately play him v Spuds on the opening day, considering they have the first leg of the CL play off round 3 days later.. cant see many spurs players going anywhere near him.. ha ha!

He's one of the better defensive midfielders in the league and, until the final, was certainly among the best in the World Cup. He'd walk into most teams in England and deserves to partner Yaya in the centre of the park.

In the semifinals is interplay with Sneijder must of been psychic as he was banned. ;-)

I don't think he is that much use against cloggers as they tend to boot the ball over his head to the forwards and he is bypassed defensively where his main attributes are. He gets a bit of a nose bleed going over the half way line and is less useful when we are pressing the game.
Think he is really useful agianst the Chelseas and Arsenals who try and pass it through the middle. I agree with the posters who reckon the challenge was clumsy and by and large he is not a dirty player, saw Zabs make far worse tackles than deJong last season.

His duty is to kick the shit out of opposition playmakers and that's exactly what he did in the competition. He did what he was asked to do and did it well. I think it's slightly ot to call him "disgrace" for that.

Im all for a good ball winning midfielder mate, but trying to kick someone in the head is not doing his job, deliberately goin in over the top on challenges to hurt people is not the job of a good ball winning midfielder either, look at Makelele who was a legend in the role. Never intentionally hurt anyone, a true pro and a great player. De Jong was disgusting last night, he had no interest in good hard solid and fair tackles, he simply decided Im gonna try and injure someone. I'd call that Keane like and imho football has no place for those kind of thugs. The same could be said for alot of the dutch team but DeJong is supposed a city player and the only one I care about.

What total and utter tripe!
I'm in no way excusing last night's challenge but really! 25 years ago nobody would have batted an eyelid.
It's supposed to be a contact sport but opinions like yours are turning it into a sport for girls.

No offence meant SoF

None taken, if you played with some of the girls iv played with and against you would defo not be calling it a "sport for girls"

I recall stamping on some girls shin when i was youger and the girls leg bowed under the weight of my challenge and i felt like a shit for doing it. Luckly she did not break anything. I was fully aware i had over stepped the mark and I am 100% sure players are fully aware when they go over the top.

Im sure Nigel is sorry for the challenge and will be gutted that people's lasting memory of him in this WC is that challenge.

well stated. i'd love to let you stamp on me. Have i told you that?

;)

just sayin

cheers

Laff. i have a really crafty drag back which my under 5 team thinks is sensational, so watch out.

Also, will you let me get stuck in? Just asking. I don't want to make Ant cry, but it had to be asked. In a footballing sense. Of course.

What else does he do then? TV doesn't give you the full picture.

For me the tackle was a poor challenge and should have seen him sent off, yes, but I really do think he was trying to get the ball but didn't.
Your right leg I like; I've got nothing against your right leg. The trouble is neither have you.

If NDJ does not make that tackle people on here would say what a good solid WC he had. I actually can't agree when people say he is limited. He is a DM who does that job, it's not a pretty or nice and he won't get the plaudits like your Tevez's and Ade's but he is asked to that job and does it.

I never go to COMS expecting Hollywood type passing from him I expect him to break up the play and give the ball to the likes of Barry who have better passing abilitys.

If he can produce more of the displays like against Chelsea which was a master class in DM work then I can't see too many on here moaning about him like they do.

No way, that tackle is a small part of the shit he and van Bommell dished out throughout the WC. There were people in this very thread defending him and slating Van Bommell, I mean if thats not blue tinted glasses what is. That tackle on Alonso was dirty but and malicious but far from his worst of the tournament (you know your playing dirty when you can say that). It was the constantly kicking ppl who were past him, and going in at a players ankle sometimes over the ball that was a disgrace, wannabe leg breakers.

Both went out to kick fuck of the opposition and destroy games and than of all the ironies the entire dutch squad blame the ref, I mean jeez.
