Previously, he had spent long periods in close conversation with his No2, mooching through sheets of paper and obviously analysing strategies and tactics. After Wilkins went, he was to be seen as a solitary figure, standing for most of the game on his own in the technical area.
No matter how successful Chelsea has been in recent years, it never seems to be a happy club.
Thats a good point John.. and one that would reinforce the idea that they have been affected by the Wilkins departure.. right through to the manager perhaps.
I would have thought they will get over it and get on with it, they have the experience.. but if Wilkins had a fairly active role, even if that was just the oil that kept things smooth, and now there is a big gaping hole, you can see how it would have an effect. The big question for them is how long it will take them to shake it off and what sort of state they will be in by the time they do.
I just took a look at their fixtures coming up and there are now some really tricky games for them in the state they are in.
Wolves away will not be an easy game. then perhaps a false confidence building easy one at home v Blackburn. then two tricky away games at Bolton and then Sunderland. They could by that time be right out it and down in 6th or something.
It would be fantastic for us if Chelsea did go to shit as, of course, that would mean just 4 clubs going for the top 4 places, remove the pressure of missing out & leave us able to chuck the kitchen sink at a full blown title bid, with nothing to lose.
