Boyata is back at City getting treatment from our medical team, did ligament damage at Bolton and will be laid up for 6 weeks, apparently a pre condition of the loan deal was if he gets injured he returns to our medical team.

Their defence looked a lot better without him. I think he may struggle to get back in at CB unless they get injuries themselves.

Agreed, he has mainly being playing at right back for them though. Straight choice mate Savic or Boyata, who would you say has better potential?

Ted, you are missing one huge point in your assessment. There's a rule of thumb for players coming from backwater leagues like Serbia, Croatia & the like. These players need at least half a season to catch up on fitness alone. This is very important when you're assessing his pace, leap, strength & the like.

Even Dzeko, who came from the Bundesliga looked crap last season. He now scores a goal every 58 minutes.

Keep in mind, Dzeko was 24 years old when he arrived, top-scorer 09/10, won the league & was voted PPOTY 08/09 in Germany.

Savic is 20 years old, had two seasons in Serbia & a handful of caps for Montenegro before arriving.

I'm not saying that I see massive talent in him, but I wouldn't write him off yet, even as a Premier League centre back.

I'm not writing him off I'm just not writing him on either & I think he's a fullback.

Boyata by a long way at CB but I'm yet to be convinced by him. Most of Boyata's mistakes are in the head though; he has the build & the pace rather than Savic's which seem to be a mixture of naivity & a lack of the required abilities to be a centre half.

I think he'd make a very good defensive midfielder if he bulks up a bit (in fact he needs to bulk up a bit anyway, he needs more upper body strength)

Pique was terrible yesterday. He couldn't win a header against Llorente to save his life & got turned over repeatedly. Granted, the pitch was in diabolical condition, but imagine him up against Kenwyne Jone or Andy Carroll on a wet Wednesday night. He's never going to make it as a centre back...

What I always think in these debates when the blue eyed brigade are refusing to see the feckin obvious is " what would you think of him if he had a red shirt on". In Savic's case we'd be pissin ourselves laughin.Be honest.

Ted, this might be akin to revisiting an old chestnut, but if Bobby Manc did start playing with three centre backs, do you think Savic might shine a litle more in such a formation, especially bringing the ball out of defence ??

I think he'd look a lot better defensively with extra cover but whether he would be better than Kolo or Yaya Toure in that formation I very much doubt. See, if I was playing striker against City & he was at the back though, I'd go & stand on top of him, like Bothroyd did. Then, even if other players would like to pick me up at a set piece, they can't because I'm glued to Savic & his body is between me & them; I'm effectively using him as a shield to stop them from marking me. Then if the ball comes into my area with enough quality , I just lean on him, jump above him & nod it into the back of the net, simple.

Even with 3 CB's that can still happen unless he improves enough to stop it. Everyone has clocked him now & will play on him.

I hear Mancini is bringing in these guys to assist in some training techniques for the likes of Savic.

In fact Id swap him for number 3 on this jumping contest.

Top pogoing.

If Americans were as good at pogoing as those blokes, they would force the Olympic committee to have it in the games.

Imo Ned has the same problem as Savic as a CB though, he can't compete with aerial strikers. I'd still pick him way ahead of Savic but he can't be match sharp himself & it's still desperation imo.

Are we just writing off Kolo without having a decent look at him in the League Cup etc though ? He has only played a few games himself tbf. One was (ridiculously) away at Bayern & at Wolves, although he dropped a few bollocks, he also got in a few decent interceptions amongst the howlers. I don't hold out great hope but I'd at least like to see him get a few sub appearences etc before we assume he's had it completely.

Just a theory but perhaps he was one of the main antagonists when Mancini got Hughes' job.
His performance on Soccer AM and his association with that Kia cunt are a bit too much of a coincidence for me.

There was an instance during that season when Ned scored a goal after being brought back into the team. I'm pretty sure he was going to head in Mancini's direction to make a point & was held back by several of the players. I don't think the relationship was ever great between them.
