Savic expected to move to Fiorentina as part of the deal

Sky Sports sources understand Manchester City have agreed a fee with Fiorentina for defender Matija Nastasic.

A deal has been struck for a reported £12million and the transfer could see Stefan Savic move in the opposite direction after failing to fulfil expectations at the Etihad Stadium.

Nastasic, a Serbia international team-mate of Manchester Unitedcaptain Nemanja Vidic, has long been linked with City and they will now push for an agreement on personal terms and a medical before Friday's deadline.

The 19-year-old only joined Fiorentina from Partizan Belgrade last summer but he made 25 appearances for the Italian club as they finished 13th in the 2011/12 Serie A.

City boss Roberto Mancini will hope Nastasic will prove a suitable improvement on Savic, who has endured a difficult time since moving to England in July 2011.

A fee of £6m was paid to Partizan but the 21-year-old has made just five Premier League starts for England's reigning champions.

Savic has reasonable ball skills He's often just seemed in awe or overcome by the moment and not very decisive.

I think honestly the stage he is on was one step too far for him. i can see him doing a good job for a team in some capacity, but his time at City hasn't convinced me just what position that is yet.

He took a lot of slagging on here, 90% of it deserved in my opinion. He's not the worst player we've ever seen, but he's just seemed like the calibre of player that City would have been beyond buying without really throwing him in the deep end of the pool and watching him struggle. It sounds arrogant a little, but it's just basically how i feel about him.
