I've been mulling this over as I was born in England, have lived in England all my life and yet have no passion for the national side - although with Welsh and Irish ancestry in the family I wonder whether I'd support a GB team more? Or is it that I've aligned myself to my 'nation' and that's being a City fan and realistically I have no more love to give any other team - it's nice to see Hart, Milner et al do well, but I'd want the same for Aguero, Kompany etc

Is your club exclusive compared to the national team?

I'm not quite sure where the 2 are exclusive as they will never play against each other and they will never play at the same time. People have found hate due to injuries et al but realistically they could do that in any match.

The problem is that we've gone backwards since our golden age but at the same time we were hyped well above what we were capable of. Now, we are probably where we should be at, a very good side but not quite in the world class mould.

We should be ranked in the 30s along with Poland and Ukraine.

Why is that then?

Couldn't agree more Beefy. Some people treat it like you can only choose one. I remember at the 2002 world cup and Euro 2004 and even the world cup 06 to an extent, the whole of the nation got behind the team. And there was a great atmosphere wherever you went.

But now adays too many fans - even on here let club rivalries spoil international football for them.

Because we are equally at their level. We draw with them, like we draw with other teams. England are shit and will only get worse. The younger players are worse than the older ones. Wtf are England going to win with cleverly welbeck and co in the near future.

This could explain some of it:

1904: WHERE HAVE ALL THE YOUNGSTERS GONE?

This tournament kicks off just as the news comes through that playing time of English under-21s in the Premier League has fallen to its lowest level.

English under-21s made up 2.28% of the total minutes played in 2012-13 with Manchester City, Chelsea, Swansea, Stoke and Wigan failing to field an English player under 21 all season.

The new figures fall behind Italy (2.38%), Spain (3.40%), Germany (6.22%) and France (7.32%).

To add to that, when the team is missing the likes of Zaha, Rose, Ince and Lansbury, nevermind those who've been taken for the full national team then you can see where we struggle. We aren't the greatest, at any level, but when you lose so many players then it only makes matters worse.
