I disagree. I think he's playing because we've got a lot of away games against decent teams coming up, so Pellers wants to get him up to speed. If Barcelona begin to overrun us at the Camp Nou, we'll need JG to step in and do the job he did in Munich, when he changed the game.

As for Fernandinho filling Barry's shoes, I only meant as the most industrious midfielder. Obviously they're very different players.

Fernandinho has been playing 'half' games when possible for a while now, often swapping with Yaya, who has a back injury.

Imo, Fern was badly in need of time off & shouldn't have been playing those half games. He has looked goosed at times in his last two & we have some big games coming up.

Wouldn't surprise me if he gives him a runout tonight, but again he should just keep it a short one imo.

Problem is we can only make 3 subs, I would give 45 to Jovetic, 45-60 to Aguero, 30 to Fernandinho, 45 to rodwell, Poss full game to Richards, 60 to Clichy etc...... we have so many games to play that we will pick up injuries and poor performances due to running out of juice. You cant stay at the top all the time, everyone needs to get some rest.

Well when the PL FA etc (say) they are looking at ways to get more kids coming through, there is an easy enough method: for cup competitions allow 3 more extra spaces on the bench, if they are U20, uk qualified & have been at the academy for several years, & allow an extra substitution to be made from those players, two extra if you use one of them before the 60 min mark.

Make it that the last sub has to be introduced before the 70th minute if they are to be used so he can't just be thrown on to waste time/kick people. Then some 'homegrown' kids make it to the bench for every game & many will get on the pitch.

Garcia 'gets it' - whatever 'it' is that Pellegrini asks his central midfielders to do - of the second choice central midfield options (with Milner apparently a wide player under Pellegrini rather than a central option) he is pretty much the only choice we have. (that, or a slow Demichellis)

Thought both he and Lescott did very well. Never flashy enough to get MOTM, but starters for Tuesday unless Fernandinho makes a miracle recovery

Both Garcia and Lescott should have played themselves into Tuesday's team. Garcia is not getting quicker but as the season goes on his positioning is getting better. I don't get it but Lescott and Kompany just works
It may be my last year as a season ticket holder as it just doesn't seem the same with so few English and local players (but I said that last year)

The lad was great tonight I think he was MOTM.I have slated him in the past but in the big games he seems to relish the challenge.

Did really really well today, some great tackles from him, top in the air, I'm very pleased with his performance. JL excellent game.Hope Manuel sees what we all see, that he and Vinny work.

Other notes, Yaya, really up for it today, put in a proper shift. Gail, quality again, seem to be getting more consistant. Merlin....fabulous, Jimmy Jaws great display wherever asked to play. Samir, shows what we've been missing. Beast looking much better. Edin, worked hard.....Great all round team peformance, made Chavski look VERY ordinary

im actually not so sure about playing Garcia vs. Barca. he was undoubtedly great today but Chelsea weren't exactly burning with pace in midfield. Barca are. Xavi and Iniesta are very different than Matic and Mikel. i fear his lack of pace could be exploited.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but he did very well tonight, really looks like a player you'd go out and buy rather than the one we bought who trotted around with his head up his arse.

Absolutely.. Garcia and Lescott both played well against a slow Chelsea side, a hole different game against Barca.
Don't think they have anything to do on the pitch then...

He played really well today, but I'm reserving my judgement for a few games, hope he lives up to what we've been seeing of him recently.
