Yeah that's the dude - he had a poor season last year by his standards but ultimately we never played to his strengths. We then sign Bony and again won't play to his strengths.
Better the devil you know? Better the one you know can carry a team to a title?
For me I'd love Bony to succeed, but at the time and since, it just seems a totally pointless signing when he isn't an upgrade on Dzeko
Not when that devil has given up the ghost. I don't want to diminish the part Dzeko played in either of our title wins but I think saying he carried us to the title is a bit of a stretch. He came up with the goods at important moments but if anyone carried us to the title it was Yaya ( dons tin hat ).
I agree he's not an upgrade on Dzeko but I could see the logic in his signing at the time, when Negredo left we lacked a physical presence in the box for Aguero to feed off as despite his size Dzeko never really provided this. As it transpired we stopped playing 4-4-2 shortly after Bony's arrival ( instructions from above I suspect ) and the theory never really got a chance to be put into practice.
Back on topic, great to see Nacho starting on Saturday. That's 15 appearances now for the first team at an average of 25 mins per appearance, not bad for a kid that hadn't played a minute of senior football before this season started.
