Hypothetical, as Eddie timed it right, but if he hadn't I fully expect he would have gotten a red. I don't get the 'wrong as that would be' remark.
If he comes that far out of his box on a one on one, he knows the consequences of getting it wrong.
He didn't get it wrong and took the consequences of making sure he got it right. Extremely courageous goalkeeping, both in decision making and execution.
Mane got it very wrong. He went for the ball straight leg studs showing above shoulder height. He wasn't risking anything of himself by going for it with his head.
I don't believe it was malicious but I don't understand how anyone can have sympathy for him or doubt the decision given by the ref.

'Wrong as that would be' as the foot from Mane would still be high and still endangering an opponent's safety.

You can say that again, reverse the players and we'd have Ederson with a lifetime ban for trying to have Mane's eye out.
In any case I've had enough of all this 'everybody agrees it was accidental' rubbish as trumpeted by city hating half-wits like Sutton on MOTD last night.
The plain fact is Mane saw that Ederson got there first and carried through with his lunge anyway - deliberately trying to injure him.
His eyes were wide open as Ederson headed the ball - plenty of time for him to pull out of the full force contact. Anybody who has played the game knows that - which makes the coterie of his apologists like Lineker, Wright etc all the more contemptible.

"But what was he doing out there?" G Neville, 9/9/17

the eyes have it, the ayes have it
I don't think he meant it. It was reckless yes, and he knew he was endangering Ederson so he deserved a red, but there was no malice. Split second and he would have nicked it over the keeper.
Question is, had he got there first would a free still be awarded against him for high foot?

He kicked him in the head and got sent off. No further questions required.

Really?
It's as much of a red as there ever can be

If their appeal were to be turned down, could Mané's ban be increased to four games ??
Mind you, in view of the orchestrated media campaign we've witnessed, the red card will probably be rescinded.
