The freekick for hand ball wasnt given becasue Gomes had the ball in his hands. Gomes was the one who made a mistake by putting the ball down!

He cant just award himself a freekick!

What kind of logic has Howard Webb holding boards up at our game whilst the ego-maniac is put in charge of a big match?

I don't understand this.

Jackson clearly and deliberately handled the ball but you are saying that it's not a free-kick because Gomes then picked the ball up?

That makes no sense to me whatsoever.

You will read all about it in tomorrow's press and see it all over the TV for the next few days.

Clattenburg wouldn't have it any other way.

Terrrrrrrrrr-wat!!! Gotta watch MotD now, cheating what-do-you-call-ems!

Does this show that the Premier League is bent, or just corrupt?

Just read that Clattenburg was the ref when this happened too....

He really should be suspended from being a referee. He's a joke every week.

The ref didnt need to give a freekick because spurs had the ball. You play to the whistle. Makes perfect sence!

You do play to the whistle, and ultimately that is Gomez' mistake,Clattenburg had not signalled he had even acknowledged a handball had occurred, never mind blown his whilstle.

There is an argument that had Gomez set spurs on an attack by playing the ball quickly, there was an advantage to playing on. Otherwise, there is no possible reason that an advantage would have been given in the defending side's box. I suppose with something being so blatant, it can be understood why Gomez did what he did, and whilst the goal was entirely legitimate in terms of how things worked out, it still doesnt hide the fact that Clattenburg is a dishonest, shady, cheating motherfucker - to which we can now add further evidence of incompetence.

Now - your explanation is plausible, and would to a large extent exonerate the referee if he spoke up and tells motd how he saw it. What you reckon the chances of that are though?

I presume that you are referring to the 'advantage rule'?

What advantage did Spurs gain in this instance??

Intriguing to think that to the letter of the law that Clatteburg is right but in ever scence he is wrong. I wonder whether the Laws of Armed Conflict have the same interpretation, think I'll try that one next time I'm out on the ground; I'm sure the lads will put me right!

A disgrace of a referee and even more, those who back him!

I think the Premier League is heading the same was as Serie A. I suppose with so much money involved in the game it was always going to happen.

At least the MOTD pundits quite pointedly made the point that its one rule for United

I don't know, it's not like this changed the outcome of the game. Spurs were pretty poor in the 2nd half, I really really doubt they were getting an equalizer.

He did, but it was not football related, it was to do with his other business interests.

However he has been involved in an awful lot of controversy, including the article below which details an allegation that Gerrard influenced him to send Hibbert off in the Merseyside derby, and that he significantly favoured Liverpool with other decisions.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... iasco.html

Strange really, Wio got a hearing today, just like Gerrard a few years ago. Seems it truly is one rule for the big clubs, and one rule for everyone else where cuntenburg is concerned.
