It's a funny thing that when this board was so split on Hughes there were few at the game getting too worked up. And now as the feeling here is fairly agreed on Bobby, there are furious rows between fans every game. I wonder what that means. In 118 there is now definitely a fair bit of tension in the air.
I don't believe Mancini will get us where we want him to and so I wouldn't be bothered if he went sooner rather than later. Can we afford him to fuck it up this season with all the financial restrictions coming, when the general feeling is that we need to qualify this time out or face a new set of problems?

Mancini will get sacked if he misses out on Champion's League. He knows, I know it and my neighbours dog knows it. Therefore "Mancini out of we miss out on CL" discussion is completely pointless.

Fair comment. But at what point do they press the button. Will hovvering around 5th , 6th or 7th within touching distance of a CL spot be enough? Or do we need to have clear water between us and the pack?

If you want my opinion(for what it´s worth) I´d say if we were 8/9th, 5/6 points off fourth at Chrimbo the lever would be pulled

While they aren't exactly paupers themselves, Spurs did not have hundreds of millions of pounds in which to put together a squad, we did and that carries with it certain expectations.

With the amount we have spent we should be looking at either entertainment or results on a weekly basis, it's a bitter pill when we get neither.

Spurs have spent a lot of money over the last 5 years or so putting together a squad and then taking it apart and putting it back with er the same players and aside from the Ramos year in which they won the Carling Cup they finished 5th twice and have always been there or there abouts of CL qualification. Whilst they were finishing 5th we couldn't score a fucking league goal at home. We have spent a lot of money in very short space of time under two managers so as bbs says there are going to be fuckups along the way as every fucking team in the league has fuckups. We are not fucking unique or fucking exempt from the normal rules that govern football, life and the universe as a whole. What our money does or should guarantee is the minimisation of these fuckups and over time this will happen. We should be looking at entertainment or results or both every week but like every other team you cannot guarantee it and whining like babies over one shite performance and result ain't going to change that fact. We were poor. We got what we deserved. Mancini isn't making excuses and has to put it right. We all know it and if he don't put it right and we don't finish top 4 then in the summer he will probably be sacked. Or he will sack some of the players and get others in. One of the two. Personally I have a feeling that they will stick with Mancini for another season but hey what do I know.

I absolutely think we should stick with Mancini, however this week cannot be defended and I think you are falling on that side of the discussion. I thought that after the Arsenal game it was paramount that we get the result on Saturday, the top clubs respond to adversity and we played for a bit then heads dropped and we looked like a Stuart Pearce beaten side for 70 minutes. If we are to be a top side, when we lose and we will at times, that the next team we face is like "oh fuck, City are gonna come and hammer us." Right now I think WBA are salivating at the thought of playing us, where they should be dreading a pasting.

Re: Mancini

Postby john68 » Mon Nov 01, 2010 12:42 pm

Some of the stuff posted on here defies credibility. A couple of bad results and: "up come the knees." A couple of defeats and "let the panic start." A couple of defeats and "Lets pull it all down and start again".

It has been a couple of defeats, it doesn't mean that the World is caving in, it means we still have a long way to go, lessons to learn and weaknesses to rectify. The journey to the top was never going to be easy and we should understand that there were always going to be slip ups. Anyone who expected any different is an idiot.

Slim alluded to the increased expectations earlier in this thread and he is right to point out they have increased. City fans do expect a better showing this season than they did last season. But is that fair at this stage? When Hughes replaced Sven, s lot of things went back to square 1 and we started many things again. Mancini's appointment was no different. A new round of incoming players and new philosophies, strategies and tactics meant yet again going backwards in order to go forwards. The media have done much to create a sense of immediacy. We want success, but we want it now. I think that is wholly unreasonable.

We need to be what we say we are...SUPPORTERS. Success only comes to those clubs where everyone is pulling in the same direction. Admin, coaches, players and fans. The media having built an unreasable agenda of immediacy are now having a field day pulling us to bits. We have to ignore that shite and stand firm. If it goes tits up, there will be a point that we will know that, but that time is a long way down the line yet.

We are going in the right diresction, we are still healthily sat near the top, we still have a great squad. Leave Cookie, Marwood, mancini and his coaching staff to keep building, allow them to make their mistakes and in time we will see the success that our patience deserves.

I think he should stay until the end of the season regardless of anything. I'm saying that because changing managers during the season might lead into hasty decisions and panic appointments. Last thing we need.

For what it's worth, I'm still sure Mancini will lead us to Champion's League.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Today was garbage, but we're still top 4 and can get back on track. As was the case with Hughes and Sven, I really don't want to see another change of manager. If we want Wenger-esque sustained results, we're gonna have to give one fella a run at some point. Managers will continually get undermined and we'll never settle if the management position is constantly under threat.

In a different note, if the_georgian_genius seriously thinks Ted is a poor poster, I'd say he's in a minority of one.

I only got to see the game on sunday because we weren't live on telly on saturday and rather than watch a stream I rather waited to see it on telly. Generally, win, lose or draw I've stayed away from this site during the games and in immediate aftermath for the reasons that I want to form my own opinions and see how they match with opinion of others.

Seeing as we are in top 4 I find it rather interesting how certain people found the time and place to vent their deep down feelings. At least I've never hid my true feelings about anything in the past. Starter of this topic mostly stayed away from football discussions for weeks when things were going great only to make incidental comeback after saturdays result. Maybe you should think about that?

I'm not certain what you're getting at here. Think about what? I'm pretty sure we're in agreement that this little blip is exactly that - no biggie. As for the "admirable tongue-biting," I'm only pulling your leg.

Agreed. To be honest I wasn't that impressed at the Arsenal result despite the 'great team spirit' bit. The attitude shown made me feel slightly better but a 3-0 defeat still sticks. The Wolves result and performance was so far short of a top side showing that it defied belief and the only thing that made it slightly better was Mancini saying it was in effect 'shite' - admittedly he put it more diplomatically but if he had come out with a series of lame excuses I would have started a 'Mancini Out' thread. Saying it was unacceptable and shouldn't happen and must not happen again I can handle and go 'ok Bobby spot on now make sure it doesn't happen again' and get some closure as the Americans would say.

That said I know it will happen because every top side drops a bollock. Chelsea had back to back away defeats last year and everyone starting muttering Ancellotti would go the way of Scolari. WBA took Arsenal apart at the Emirates and so on. But as long as our management deem it unacceptable and strive to make it as rare as possible then ok move on and bear in mind that whilst we still a work in progress we still need to grind out points and if that means ugly performances then I'll take 28 games of it right now and thanks very much.

How we respond is critical and made more difficult in that we still have players finding their feet but that's life at the top and we have to deal with it. Mancini is an egotistical, arrogant c**t who drives the players hard and expects a lot from them. He ain't popular and I really don't care because 1) I'm a Mancini fanboy and 2) An egotistical, arrogant c**t who has spent his life as a player and a manager winning things is who I want to see in charge right now. My only advice to Mancini is don't take Ade off in a fit of rage because Ade has ballooned another chance over the bar.

The point is I'm just as pissed about weekends result as the next man. However, if we look at the bigger picture I feel things are going quite well as far as this season is considered. Getting kicked out of League Cup, Wolves and to some extent Sunderland were all huge disappointments but there have been lot of positives as well and I feel we are moving in right direction and towards Champion's League. Unfortunately it's sometimes two steps forward, one step back.

What became painfully clear in weekend is the one worry I had earlier as well. Besides Tevez we lack prolific goalscorer. We had tons of chances to get a draw and even win the game. Unfortunately we fluffed all of them. But that's something I feel Mancini will look into in january.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

The way Ade was banging them in between late-2006 and late-2008, I thought we'd bagged ourselves that 20-a-season striker we've not had since Anelka. I think most of us expected him to be our main goal threat when we signed him, and until about October/November last year he was. He's a flaky character, but I'd appreciate if Mancini could start getting consistent results out of him like Wenger did during his time at Arse.

I know people bang on about Dzeko, Ibrahimovic, Benzema, Eto'o etc, but Ade is a tried and tested Premier League goalscorer. Even his stats for us aren't that bad (I think something like 20 goals in 40 starts in all competitions since arriving). I wouldn't like us to spend heavily in January. I'd rather work on maximising the potential of what we've got. By the end of the season, the wheat will have been cut from the chaff. If he doesn't pull his finger out, Ade might well fall by the wayside but he's DEFINITELY got the ability if we can find a way to keep him fit and focussed.

I'd agree that Ade is good enough if we can getting him firing again. And it might help if we gave our strikers something to work with. They need proper service. Tevez has performed miracles on scraps, but in general it helps to attack a bit more.

That is simply bullshit.

Been saying this for a while now, but also pointing out that we have a few excuses.. or rather HAD a few. eg Ade out and headtwisted, Balotelli out and therefore not getting experience, Silva learning.. Jo and RSC both shit.
I thought before the season started that we were thin in terms of strikers who could be relied upon and wanted us to sign another striker just in case. City probably tried and it didn't work out and now the just in case scenario has arrived.
I also put in a thread about getting goals from the midfield. and that also hasn't eveloved as yet.. for similar reasons that they are all learning to play together i guess.

Anyway it was a strategic weak point we didn't find someone and offload the excess. Relying on Jo, Ade and RSC together with untried Balotelli was a gamble imo.. and a gamble that didnt look like good odds. Ade may well get in the swing of things as he looks like he is trying at least, which is something.
