MOTD - Media Bias Against City

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I sent Stuart Brennan a pm on Bluemoon linking to this thread. I know he has previosly openly engaged in discussions with fans on BM. He replied the following:

"Thanks for the heads up, but I'm not getting involved.
I am not happy with the stuff I did on Saturday, but I had an absolute nightmare.
I found out just before kick off that my dad had been taken into hospital just before kick off, so my mind was elsewhere.
Add to that a dozen technical problems with laptop and wifi, and I spent most of the afternoon trying to fix difficulties rather than watching the match.
Not an excuse, but looking back at the ratings, they were poor."

He seems a decent guy!
It is true the MEN has all United journos but IMO SB is trying to be professional and sympathetic to our club. He has to make a living.

Brennan's the best out there as far as City are concerned. Not his fault his paper's been taken over by the DailyMirror shower of shite.

Can't believe any of you still read the MEN. It was useful in about 1983 until some American invented the Internet (I know it wasn't but it will be by the time the film is made)

Sympathetic to our club??? Are u for real? We don't want sympathy , we want somebody who tells the truth. Ain't gonna say anything about Saturday if someone is ill. But u might wanna ask why him and spencer started a witch hunt on blues about Munich . Right after we won the FA cup semi v rags. But nothing when they started about hillsborough . Instead banging on about how bad they have had it.
He might be a nice guy, he might not. But his bias will show nomatter how professional he wants to be. I would if I reported on rag games. It's only natural.
If u wanna fall for their shit, no problem.

Stuart Brennan has sent me this pm on my BM account. I thought it would be only fair to let him make his point:

"As I said, not about to get dragged into the argument, because some people will believe black is white and cannot be convinced otherwise, no matter how many times they get put right.
But I'm not standing for the lies and drivel of leomcfc, so to address his made-up "points":
1. There was no "witch-hunt" about Munich after the semi-final. The only reference I can find in that month was a plea by Colin Bell for City fans to stop it, after a Munich chant at Blackburn, the day after a docu-drama about the crash was broadcast.
2. He calls me a rag. I no longer consider myself a United fan, and haven't done for years, the reasons are well-documented elsewhere. People who know me, Red or Blue, (and leo doesn't know anything about me) will tell you I have no bias to United and certainly no bias against City.
3. Spencer doesn't "hate City". He will tell you he is a Bury fan, but over the years, he has always been closer to City than to United. The truth is, he tried to be balanced, but some paranoid City fans, and some paranoid United fans, only hear what they want to hear and read what they want to read.
4. There have been no fall-outs, other than normal quibbles, between City and the MEN in the last two or three years. No-one, and I mean no-one, in the City press office, who monitor what we write carefully, believes that we have an anti-City or pro-Utd agenda.
5. The MEN has not changed any stance on City because we thought there had been some kind of boycott. We have no evidence that there has been a boycott.
6. For days after Utd's game at :Liverpool we printed pictures of the Munich crash? No, we didn't.
7. All the writers at the paper are rags? At a quick head count, and naming no names, there are four Blues, four Reds, one Bury, one Burnley, one FC Utd and one Wigan on the sports desk.

I don't mind criticism, and will take on board other people's opinions even when I don't agree, but people like leomcfc, who simply make stuff up to back up a poor argument, don't do themselves, or more genuine Blues, any favours at all."

What a load of shite. It was started after the Blackburn game, then after the west ham game the headline defiant was used. City fans still sing Munich . When nobody was singing it at all.
But nothing about the united fans behaviour at anfield??? Why not?? Was that needed to be kept quiet??
Yes you did, I seen a picture of the Munich air disaster next to the hillsborough one on the back page .
And it is well known in the city circles that people will not touch the MEN since all that.
Don't try and be sly about it if your going to go at anyone. If you don't like someone or something, say it.
Twist it all you want. Try to make me out a liar . No problem at all. Me and many many more know what goes on .

amazing...

1. "unintelligible language"
2. "ACID QUEEN"
3. "never once fails to turn a football thread into a himseelf thread"
4. "thumbs stalker often resulting in repetitive thumb strain"
5. ignore the cunt. he's on permantent wum mission. only TIDs may know City

You'd need to make a very good psychiatrist in order to guess what next in a eight yrs long line of hatred...

Seems to me that his focus wasn't 100% on his game so he reverted to type.If he was a utd fan he still is a utd fan.I just don't see allegiances changing for anyone who considers themselves a football fan no matter how they might say they are or try to be for their job.

Not read the MeN for years and won't be starting again soon.

One last post I'm forwarding for Stuart Brennan sent as a pm via Bluemoon:

Thanks for sticking my replies up - I have tried to register to answer directly, but am awaiting approval.
Maybe one last time?

Few questions Leo
1. Why would we have an anti-City agenda? Do you know of ANY business that sets out to deliberately antagonise large numbers of its target market?
2. What is the evidence that the MEN "softened its stance" on City? You think the MEN would have told me if that was going to happen. I can assure you they didn't. You made that up, didn't you?
3. You said we showed pictures of Munich for "days" after the Liverpool v Utd game. Then you changed it to claim you had "seen a picture"
4. We didn't mention Utd fans chanting at Anfield? What is this then? http://menmedia.co.uk/manchesterevening ... nsive-fans
5. It wasn't a "couple of City fans", it was large numbers singing "Who put the ball in the Munichs net" at Blackburn and West Ham, and other games - I could clearly hear it from the press box.

You haven't backed up any of your wild claims, but don't let that get in the way of the truth

As I said earlier I sent SB a pm via my Bluemoon account advising him of the discussions about MEN on this forum. These are his replies. I am not Stuart Brennan and have no connection with him or the MEN.
I do however think it is fair play of him to respond to comments.
He has done the same in the past on Bluemoon and I think an open discussion with feedback from us fans is to be welcomed and encouraged. As a City fan I think we should treat all people with respect.
