Remind me how did the English so called fans treat him? Oh, the rags papers are full of ; 'ex liverpoorl' winger! Couldn't make it up. Granted, Southgate stuck by him, and played him despite the haters vying for him. His transformation is thanks to Peps coaching and the way city play. The media mob thought Sancho will steal the show tonight, they were desperate to rub it in our faces, how we don't play youth blah blah. Sterling pops up and steals the show . I have a strong feeling Gareth is immitating our style of play , the media can never bring themselves to admit it
Southgate, now there is somebody who really steals for a living.
Don't get me wrong, I think he (Southgate) is still very limited, but I was worried he was going to be another Yes Man to the FA - so far he's proved to be far from it. I really like the buzz around the England squad these days and the amount of new pomising talent that he's giving chances to (not including Henderson and Dier)- if they happen to win anything (or progress past semi's to finals) he will have played his part.
Southgate seems to have a good relationship with the players, and gives youth a chance (perhaps because of the absence of quality alternatives). My main concern is his ability to have a tactical impact when things are not going to plan in a game (as seen in the WC), but I think we should give him a chance to learn and develop the players to give himself options.
Perhaps he needs David Platt on his staff
