I'm gobsmacked at the surprise of everyone that this is happening. Not just on here, I posted around 2013 that discussions had been taking place to form a Euro Super League. It had been confirmed by the ownwe of Galatasary and Agnelli, owner of Juve. So nowt new here then.
EuFA have been aware of this for years, as have FiFA, every national football institution and national league and the ECA. If I knew it I am sure as fuck so did they. SO ALL THIS SHOCK HORROR AND SURPRISEFROM THEM IS BOLLOCKS.
Another point I made shortly after our takeover was that our owners' interests at that time (and up til now), were/are identical. I warned that, that would not necessarily be the case and we needed to keep watch on where they might eventually take our club. Not sure anyone bothered to take much notice as we all rode the tidal wave of success....we failed to watch
I am also gobsmacked that posters on here are suddenly shocked to find that City have joined with the enemy to chase the dollar. City haven't been a football club for many years. We haven't been supporters for many years and those who believed the old order still existed must have been blind or stupid.
CITY ARE A MULTI NATIONAL BUSINESS AND WE HAVE MERELY BEEN CUSTOMERS FOR MANY YEARS. (MONEY MONEY MONEY)
As a business, City HAVE to join this group, there are far too many megabucks at stake to not jump on this bandwagon. Think Premier League and Swales, he had to sign up, it was the only thing that made financial sense at the time.
I'm not sure when City joined the enemy or even whether we were used bythe cartel clubs to batter UeFA for them and diminish UeFA's strength.
Interestingly, everyone seesthis as a Europe wide league. but that founders' list only includes clubs from England, Spain and Italy. As with the financial dealings when setting up the CL, France are ommited....Where are PSG?
WHAT ABOUT THE SUPPORTERS?.... Who involved with any of this gives a flying fuck for us. Football is a global market and there is a World of customers to conquer via TV and the written media. Billions of new customers, so who involved in this is worried about losing the realtively few dedicated fans in comparison?
While it may be horrendous to consider we have been written off, consider the next generation who will grow up with a Super Leagus as normal. We ranted against the Prem's formation but the very next season, we were there and our kids know no different.
Finally, those who still call our league the EPL are well out of touch. It hasn't been an ENGLISH PL for years. Owned mainly by foreign owners, played in by mainly foreign players and supported via the global media mainly by foreign supporters.
The Prem has been an international league, owned, played, and supported by foreigners for years. It is merely situated in England.
And like you, I hate every particle of this proposed shite.
Just a few thoughts
Great post. Absolutely superb summary of the situation.
This is the situation that has been facing us for over a decade now. I made my peace with what was going to go down ages ago and that's why I'm only thinking what the anthem is going to be.
Do I like or agree with where football is heading? Nah, definitely not. But what are you going to do about it? People have two chances, either go with the flow OR stop supporting some other local club. If anything that could be boost for the lower end of the pyramid.
Look at the post above about my son and his mates. Question is which one is going to spend more money on football in the future, me and John68 or my son and his mates? There's your answer.
It is what it is.
