However, all an outsider sees is someone disrespecting a tragedy, which is no different than the rags singing about hillsborough, people hissing at spurs or the racist abuse of adebayor.

There's no need for it and, frankly, it shows the club and the fans up. We've shown how good we can be at the swamp a few years back or anfield a few weeks ago, so why ruin it?

This may have got lost in all the posts and I think it sums up how I feel about the whole thing as well.

That's my view as well.
The fact is that the only people it originally was disrespectful to was the football club who milked the tragedy for all it was worth, while abandoning it's victims when they became a hindrance to them. But the original meaning has been lost over the years and is no longer relevant. So it now comes across disrespecting a tragedy, and TBH, I wish we could think of something more relevant to this day and age

Spot on chinners, I normally don't like our 'munich' songs but I joined in loud and proud last night, I never found it offensive towards the victims and the victims' families or the tragedy itself.
It was about yaya scoring the winning goal in a semi final to put is into the first cup final for a lot of us! The goal was scored against 'them', the 'rags', the 'munichs', the 'scum' etc! That is all, nothing to see here, move along now!

When I go to a game, especially an away game Im singing my head off with "Munich this, Munich that"

I couldnt give a fuck. 1958 fuck that I was born 30 years later, none of the people on that plane I even knew.

I was born some years after Europe's genocidal holocaust against the Jews.
But I would never dream of joining in a song which even mentioned that awful episode - would you?

Yes - a "fucking quality song" if you're a totally insensitive moron maybe.

City fans are the biggest hypocrites, when we hear Rags singing songs about Foe and Hillsborough we jump on our high horse and say how scummy and horrible they are, but when City fans sing about Munich some find it acceptable and a good way to wind the rags up.

Do those who think it's ok to sing Munich songs also think Foe and Hillsborough victims are fair game and there to be mocked?

It doesn't make most united fans react in a "oh you are despicable and tasteless" way....it gets a "you fucking CUNTS" out of them and that is exactly what people who use it want.

It is meant to be unpleasant and it is.

Exactly like the Millwall scummers holding up the Turkey flags to Leeds fans. We're in top-notch company, then.

I find it ironic that some of those who are 'pro-Munich' are the exact same posters writing 'We are impeccable!' after wins on here.

I don't have a problem with people (like DVT mentioned) using it amongst their mates, or in explaining to other fans why our fans use it a lot (and I get asked embarrassingly frequently). But I think it's a terrible reflection on the club when it is used in games.

Especially in such a shitty witless song, and when it's not against 'them'. It just makes us sound thuggish, bitter and, well, desperate.

Mate your not gonna get people ot stop, the best thing is to not join in so the select band of Munich singers will eventually become less and less.

I was thinking that people might have matured and grown out of it but it seems the fools who think it is clever to make such insult would rather bury their heads in the sand and pretend they are doing nothing that is offensive.Insted of admitting youre wrong cos you all know you are.Simply shut the fuck up and stop singing it.I have a feeling that your'e either to ingenuous or scared to admit your mistake but if you real fans just stop doing it then maybe we will start to make some progress.
All of you who sing it .FOOLS.Stop it

You could turn that on it's head and ask how scum fans can be so upset about Munich songs when they happily sing about Heysel, Foe, Bill Shankly, Russian submarines, Leeds fans in Turkey, etc etc etc.....

It's part of football rivalry, it might not be very pleasent but it exists and City fans are far from being the worst culprits.

The difference being that I'm not remotely interested in how they go about making themselves look bad. But I am interested in chants which make me/we/our club look bad.

Que?

I don't much care what Rags think actually - it's more what the 'moral majority' of other fans think which concerns me.
