I cannot believe that any supporter of this club would have said "ohh LOVE that" about that fucking abomination. If they did, the cunts should be tarred and feathered.
If that person is you...own up and take your medicine
I've not got the figures so I'm second guessing a little but I think this shirt has been designed deliberately poorer than the previous two for income reasons.
The first Umbro shirt was immense and everyone seemed to buy it. The stadium was full of them. Last season's tweaked version was excellent too but didn't sell half as well so much so that variants of it came out during the season.
Going by matchday and 2x Wembley trips the vast majority of people were still wearing the original shirt from 2009. So despite people liking last year's they felt no need to buy it and very few did. I didn't buy last season's kit despite liking it because it was so similiar and it felt like I was still wearing this season's kit anyway.
By designing a new kit that is completely different it will encourage people to buy as 2010's and 2009's now looks out-of-date. Umbro know that the 2009 kit is what all our supporters want and will buy. Therefore, take a hit this year with a different design and then go back to the classic look in 2012 and enjoy bumper sales again. Comparing 2009 and 2010 sales with 2011 and 2012 sales will probably result in bigger volumes shifted for the latter two.
All probably bollox though :-) but that's what I'd do if I was Umbro marketing manager.
