I had to post this as it made me laugh. I was reading a thread on redcafe about De Rossi and how the rags would like to sign him. Then someone put up a link about how he was gonna be signing for us and another poster on there said... wait for it I Would prefer his partner Pizarro. hahahaha

He could be just as shrewd and interesting a signing for us, this season, as Freddie Hill was in the 1971/72 season, where the former Bolton "old timer" ultimately proved to be a fine asset.

For those younger posters on this Forum, don't take my word for it but ask John68 or some of the other old codgers on here and I'm sure they'd be happy to give their views.

Hahahahahha...I'd forgotten Freddie Hill....he looked older then, than I do now....Thanks for that memory Mate.

He was the type of player who could recieve the ball, with an opponebt thundering down on him...and he could put his foot on it, look round, nip off for a piss, light a cig, visit his granny, sign half a dozen autographs....and still have time to play the ball.

Or maybe I'm exaggerating a little....Pity he was getting past it. Gave good service to Bolton though,

Freddie Hill did a good job for City and won over the fans. As always with City fans there were a few doubters, but in the end he contributed to the team.

Yeah, but we signed him just before Easter and he wasn't fit. Allison screwed up badly there with the timing.
Although old Rodney scored an absolute peach against Brian Clough's Derby in the final game of the season at home.

I have reason to remember that day Zurich....It was the beginning of the end...I missed the game due to me getting married.
How I regret missing that game....:-)

Top quality game although you're talking about the wrong one you muppet!!!! Pizarro does remind me of the midget player especially when he kicks the ball!!!

I love the way kids played games in ties in the 70's lol. Nowadays they're more likely accompanied by a line and some ho ;-)

OMG
Just seen the picture of Super Striker and find it difficult to hold back the tears.

Mum & Dad promised it me for Xmas and it never turned up!

Was heartbroken for a few days!!

I think Gordon Banks stopped us in our tracks at Easter with a world class display of goalkeeping for Stoke. We sort of lost our swagger thereafter.

I remember that Bank's display all too well. I was stood right behind him, giving him plenty of shit. Didn't work though.

Me too in the 'scoreboard end' just to the right above the crossbar, brilliant display to stop us.

John, you're definitely exaggerating.......from the doctor's report taken when he had the medical, prior to joining us, it was noted that he had voluminous bladder capacity and didn't need to leave the pitch to relieve himself...........

On a serious note though, I'll always remember the home game against Wolves, at the end of January 1972. City were leading 3-2 just after half time but were hanging on as Buzzer was struggling with a knock on his ankle and Wolves were playing well and really going for it.

Buzzer then limped off and the nervous tension got even worse as there was virtually a full second half to play. However, Freddie replaced him and started to control the game from a deeper position in central midfield, prompting play and spraying the ball around imperiously. The nerves immediately vanished and, with Freddie having provided a virtuoso performance, City ran out easy and deserved winners with a final score of 5-2.

A veritable master class in midfield creativity, from a terrific player and a fine footballing encounter from two attractive and gifted teams.
