If lemons starts fucking up then he will be back on the bench and we'll have to go with Joe.

However if Costel does nothing wrong I don't think there is any basis for Hart to regain the shirt until that changes.

When joe replaced shay, shay never got another look in. If pantilimon continues to perform why should this be any different?

Shay given was way past his prime at over 30 and not England's number 1

joe will get another look. he has the tools to be a top keeper. He needs to find his way again, and it'll be up to him to show he's got it when he comes back.

Keepers don't hit their prime until they are over 30.

It's fascinating the amount of experts analysts out there that know how to best handle the goalkeeping situation. Something I also find amusing is that when a goalkeeper or ex-goalkeeper gives their take and happen to back Hart they're accused of being in the Goalkeeper's union, I mean who knows the position best and what it takes but goalkeepers themselves?

I haven't seen enough of Pants yet to make any judgement on him but I wish him well, he plays well City do well so it's a no brainer.

However I do think when Hart finds his form again he'll force his way back in, we are after all talking about arguably the best goalkeeper in the Premier League for three years running until his confidence took such a big knock early last season.

Being England's number 1 is an honour much diluted by the fact that there are no world class English keepers.

Joe has a number of weaknesses in his game (all very obvious to us all) that will stop him ever being world class but he is a good shot stopper on his day and was a good keeper playing his socks off for Brum in 2010/11 and for City in 2011/12 but he was average for us in 2012/13 and crap for us in the games he played in 2013/14.
Other teams soon sussed that he's not a thinker and can't handle shots that give him time to think (especially low shots to his left), can't defend corners etc. and they've been exploiting those weaknesses but the coaches haven't been able to improve him in those areas and his overall form has declined with his confidence such that he can't even deal with the 1 on 1's anymore that were his speciality a few years ago.
He usurped Shay in 2011 because Shay was showing signs of decline while Joe was at his best - if Joe had been showing his form of this last 18 months at that juncture then I think we'd have left Shay in goal and bought a new keeper as competition for him.

Joe's a very likable guy, very Man City (except for the daft hair ads) and we've all willed him on in every game but enough is enough and he's out until he can prove himself better than Costel which may take until hell freezes over because Costel is the same age as Joe but strong in all areas.
Costel has bided his time and shown admirable patience waiting for his chance as our number 1 - I doubt that he'll give it up lightly now he has it and I wish him every success because his success is ours.
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

if we end up Champs Joe probably won't play another league game this season and might well go to Mexico as deputy to Foster.

That'll teach him to shout louder and in Serbo-Spanish..

Players who are physically or mentally unfit are taken out of consideration until they're back at their best and fit to contend for a starting berth. Joe's been throwing in poor performances for ages now and he's eventually been benched for his own good so I doubt we'll see him starting a prem or chumps league game for quite some time unless Costel picks up an injury.
From what I understand of it he's only down as reserve keeper at the moment because Richard Wright is injured and it would be better if he could be taken right out of the picture for a while though I guess that he might get a carling cup game in lieu of Pants if he works hard and starts looking right in training.
If Costel continues to perform well then he'll keep the shirt for as long as that lasts . . and long may it last.

herb don't get me wrong I know the reasons for it, but when do people ever do things for the right reasons or common sense? We all known for awhile hart needed benching but pellers gave him the benefit of the doubt and played him. That has cost us points and he shouldn't have really played at chelsea and well we lost because of hart.

Anyway hart has been benched but with all the media bollocks and the fact that hart is english, pellers might have foregone common sense and played him after benching him once. we all know though benching him for one game will not work and I thought he might have caved and gave us hart again.

who cares if its messing with his head. he deserves it, good riddance I say. people seem to have a soft spot for him because he had a good run which is debatable btw, all the media hype and that he is englands number one...

if he was world class he wouldn't have made two seasons worth of errors in 1/4 of this season. not to mention the previous one.

he seems more bothered about being a hero, probably explains his logic running out of the area all the time, making friends with the scum players, head and shoulders and his public image.
Still here.

MJ,
You're right. I'm not going to clog a pretty free-flowing thread by repeating your well phrased expansion on your original point but I agree with all that you wrote and I freely admit that I missed the sarcasm in the post I responded to or I'd have understood your direction and kept schtum.
I'll respect that you always seem to post good stuff and try to think twice before I put my proddy finger into gear next time!

Anyhow, good luck to Costel in his first chumps league game and indeed to all our lads tonight - including the bench should they be called upon!
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

Must admit that the thought of getting the original Joe back has a certain attraction . . . one of our longest serving and best loved - and he was benched when he was shit too . . . could it be a 'Joe' thing?
