But his situation last season typifies in a nutshell the peculiarities of Roberto Mancini, especially his man management and strange use of tactics. Only he could buy a 6' 4" striker and play him in a team without wingers.

because overlapping full backs can't provide crosses and if we play with wing backs people might die...

Who needs these newfangled overlapping full backs and and wing backs when it's much more of a challenge to tippy-tappy around on the edge of the penalty area?

Watching Spain's U21's yesterday, for all their tippy tappy, they had both overlapping fullbacks & a winger. The problem was that none of them had a final ball. The rags, with the same space out wide, would have scored 3 or 4. They work on this stuff.

That was the problem with Mancini's system & he never improved that part of the game in 3 years. Time after time we got fullbacks overlapping, & time after time they pass the ball to the 1st defender, or wait too long to put the ball in & end up passing it backwards. When we used wing backs, they gave the ball away in front of the oppo & got stranded, as opposed to when Keegan used SWP etc as wingbacks & they got behind the oppo.

Similarly with people like Nasri, beating the fullback &...beating him again going backwards.

When it all worked, we had width & were superb but it rarely did & we had to find other ways of breaking teams down.

A striker makes runs to coincide with where he thinks the ball may go. If the ball never comes, he stops making the right runs. Both Aguero & Dzeko stopped making enough of the right runs. I don't think Dzeko is a great player but he will score goals (& miss loads too) if the manager works out a routine of areas he can expect the ball to go. We have a clean start now, so that is a possibility if we keep him.

Agree with you totally about Dzeko Ted. Anyone who doubts your assessment should watch the montage of his 30 goals for wolfsburg in their title winning season...the ball was delivered consistenly early from both flanks to near and far post and he knew when and where it was coming from. The key thing is will Pellegrini look to get more from Dzeko by trying to give him more to work with or is it a lost cause with him?...my view has always been City and Dzeko havent fitted but ive never doubted his goalgetting qualities. he would score a hatful for scum no doubt.

I have a strong feeling that going with the three strikers we have now would not be the end of the world if more power and pace was added in other areas of the pitch. I'd like us to sign Cavani but think that Carlos, Dzeko and Serg are all capable of scoring twenty goals + given the right service.
As an aside I think Big Dave will benefit greatly from there being more pace around him. It's so much easier to slide balls through when there are quick players.

That's 100% on the money.

We have the strikers already, the question is can we extend Carlos' contract. I would like a young player(from the academy if possible) as a 4th striker and (with any luck) a good experienced pay-as-you-play free transfer as a backup, Vieira style signing.

If we can trade Dzeko for Cavani I wouldn't say no though.

If we cannot get the best sticking is the best option, to many times we cut back jinked in and out, for any forward that must be murder, cross the fucking thing was what I was thinking so many times last season it was crazy. We saw against crap Championship teams we could pass them to death and score at will,League games we passed and passed until it petered out, Chapions League you get a chance you gotta take it or at least have a pop. Edin is Van Horse face for us you can pass it all day he has no interest in that he wants service and fuck it I scored who gives a toss about 1-2, ITS MY JOB.

According to SSN, Cavani has said 'it would be a pleasure to play under Jose Mourinho'

But he said in the interview himself that 'To be coached by people like Manuel Pellegrini and Jose Mourinho would be a pleasure'

So SSN engineer that statement for Chelseas favour. Cunts.

I'd still give Natalie Sawyer one tho....

If we utilize his strengths, I'd like to see him stay as well. Under Mancini he simply had no place in the team where we needed players like Tevez and Aguero.
However, with crossing coming in from wide, he has a place. We just need to ensure we cross the balls in the box, wether early or not. He can lay the ball back, or attempt to score. It still baffles me why we haven't tried this more often. He's good a good header. Remember that Spurs goal? Or the goal against QPR.

Skysports fails to tell the whole truth and spin the quotes to suit their own agenda...for a change.
The interview with Cavani made m laugh when he was talking about City and Chelsea and later went on to say as a lad it was his dream to play for these teams....really...NO Really....City, when you were a lad? Lying bastard!

These 'newfangled' wing backs and full backs are not new. Tony Book , for example was really good at it .So too Willie Donachie. I for one hope Edin stays and we can get the best out if him.

Cavani mentions Pellegrini before Mourinho. Yet Pellegrini has not yet been announced as City manager, let alone appointed.

Someone at City has most likely spoken to Cavani or his rep.

Therefore it's down to valuation.

If Napoli really do want Dzeko, then that would swing it, but of course it could be the case that we also want Dzeko & Napoli are trying to force us to sell him if we want Cavani.

Honestly, you could probably get both. Swap one and with the money that comes with the swap, buy the other player. Neither are going to cost more than 25 million.
