I thought wales getting beaten by iran was embarrassing until last night. On a positive note, foden walker and phillips are training to be match fit on their return to us and southgate is gone after this tournament. Setting up not to lose is not the way forward

Unbelievable that Stones has played 180 minutes of football back to back and not got injured. Mental. Maybe it’s a curse for when he plays in blue? Yaya..is it you?

Hopefully Southgate doubles down and Phil can get a nice rest. This WC is actually helping us a bit. Walker and Phillips both not playing but training to get their fitness up.

For a manager to pass on Foden, you have to say that he’s in the wrong job.

Only one City player in the first team, seems like they’re choosing players on their popularity rather than form.

Kompany made a post match comment about managers whose choice for their team system may not necessarily be their best players. According to baghead Sterling, Rashford & Saka are quicker than Phil, Grealish keeps the ball better etc etc but I'm guessing something else may be going on in the background - he's not been starting for us either. Worrying,

Yep, it is beginning to look like something is going on in the background with Foden.
Southgate is hopeless as manager and will be the main reason why England don't win this WC. But he is not completely brain dead. Not playing Foden or bringing him on via USA is a completely brain dead move. Something does not add up.

Too late and to tired, but this just popped up, not sure how true it is.......

Didier Drogba : "If I am an English FA president. I am calling Southgate straight away, asking: " Have you ever seen Argentina not using Messi?, Portugal not using Cristiano, France not using Mbappe or Brazil not using Neymar? Except when they are injured?... Why would you keep our best complete lad on Bench [Foden]. In Argentina tomorrow you would wake up on News that the coach is leaving Qatar for not using Messi and his assistant will carry on. Football is not a picnic in South America, their Football Federations does not make friends with Coaches, they Sack you . That boy has proven many times that he can add a spark where there is none. He is scoring goals and creating assist for Manchester City. Truly Maddison was right when he said "because he was on form and not a Defender, that's why Southgate was overlooking him ". Southgate is not ready to use on form players "

His team is outplayed for 90 mins by a bunch of of lumpen yanks and baghead comes up with this gem:
"The USA dominated proceedings throughout and starved England of many clear-cut opportunities, with the Three Lions’ best chance coming in the 93rd minute when Harry Kane headed wide from a free-kick. Thus, many expected Foden to come off of the bench to try and make something happen.

But Southgate instead opted to bring Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish on to replace wingers Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling, with No 10 Mason Mount playing the full 90 minutes. Many felt that Foden could have made an impact if brought on to play through the midfield, but Southgate didn’t as he explained: “We didn’t feel it was right for Phil in the middle because he doesn’t play there for his club.”

Scholes didn’t play wide left for United but England still forced him out there because they were desperate for Lampard and Gerard to work

I’m not sure if it’s worrying seeing as he’s played in more games than Ederson this season, and that’s while we’re trying to get Grealish in who plays in the same position.

The issue is that Southgate has his favourites and prefers to work with them than put the team first. This comes more apparent when we don’t do as well as expected, especially when you can see that his tactics have totally failed.

The players aren’t the problem, it’s the manager who is totally out of his depth.

Strange statement from Southgate. Harry Kane doesn’t play in midfield for his club, where he was for most of the game. Due to that, Sterling was playing CF and when Rashford came on he went to the right where he doesn’t play for his club.

We have a very good team of players, what let’s them down is one person and that is the manager who fails to utilise what he’s got.

Walker doesn’t play CB for us but he’s played it in a back 3 for England under Southgate many times.

Something else going on? The point is that Bernardo, KDB & Gundo are all available to play 8 at City - Pep has constantly pointed out that is the only reason why Foden doesn't play there for us, he has the ability.

Yeah agreed. There was this a few weeks ago, not sure I agree with Pep re timeline, I think Foden can play central now -

'I agree with Kevin': Pep Guardiola shares De Bruyne's view that Phil Foden will eventually become a central midfielder... but not yet as he insists the young star 'still has to grow' as a player.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11280489/Pep-Guardiola-agrees-Phil-Foden-eventually-central-midfielder-Manchester-City.html

Ultimately though, he’s better than Mason fuckin Mount

I think it is fairly clear that southgate hasn't got much time for Foden. Could be the Iceland thing but I suspect the waistcoat knobhead is jealous of Phil's natural talent, not to mention his medal haul. I suspect he would rather not have Phil there at all, but he is such a talent that he simply can't be left out.

It is unprofessional to let what is obviously a personal thing have any impact on his team selections. You don't have to like someone to have a productive working relationship..
