Not convinced Silva is the man we want but if he can do it in the PL I'll love watching him. Great that we can even be mentioned in these circles anyhow.

I vividly remember silva playing against us when we faced valencia in the thomas cook trophy a few years back, he tore us apart that day (even though we won... i think) very rarely i watch a young player and am blown away, i was on that day.

I would be utterly delighted if we sign him, he oozes class. Him and Jinky bombing down the wings, wow, amazing stuff!

Not doubting his talent, just whether he'll do it in the prem. Dunney, Micah & Co in a freindly game doesn't count! Hopefully he'll come shining through in real games.

Balague now also saying we have agreed a fee for silva. I'd say the mail is proven right by this, Balague knows his stuff when it comes to spanish players, he also mentions yaya being agreed to.

Top stuff, things are looking good chaps!

Not certain hes actually saying it as if he has it on good authority that its going to happen. Its located in the rumour section of his site.Having said that i do hope it is true, seems to be gathering momentum without any attempt to deny or distance himself from a move.

Gollum Ballbag likes to jump on a deal when it's almost done and claim prior knowledge. There's no insight in his article, but I get a feeling that things will move on both the Toure and Silva fronts as soon as the WC finishes.

In all fairness to balague he does have strong ties to valancia. strong enough for david villa to ask him to be a godparent to one of his children... although i guess that means he has stronger ties to barca now... either way he has at least one man on the inside of at least one of the deals.. potentially.

I think we 'agreed a fee' for Silva ages ago, maybe by phone, maybe even in January, so i dont think this news is too profound. After all the Villa deal too must've been sorted ages ago due to the indecent haste with which he suddenly went to Barca.

But there will be other factors such as:

Are there other offers the same?
Where does the player want to go?
Personal terms/wages
Is he a first choice for City, as it seems more and more we have agreed and negotiated lots of deals, depending on who we can get first and who not?
Are City underwhelmed by his World Cup and could that pull the plug?

Based on Bobby's first six months in the job you want to bet against it? And when it works like it's supposed to, you end up scoring 11 in two games, didn't find those games boring.

Thing is, you might have couple of odd good games but no side, I repeat no side, has ever dominated any league playing 4-4-2 with two holding midfielders and surrendering center of the pitch on attacking third to opposition. It's just shit thinking in my opinion.

Personally I don't think we'll be using that system, system that Hughes was fan of by the way, and IF Mancini really uses system like that even I will start having doubts about him. But I think Mancini is quality manager and will not act like a fool. I think we'll be using 4-2-3-1.

yo....Saint Austell

how current is this??

Valencia have rejected rumours that they have agreed a deal to sell David Silva to Manchester City .

Silva has been at Valencia for almost his entire career and has established himself as one of Spain's top players. In 2009/2010, the 24-year-old scored nine goals and provided ten assists in 38 appearances for financially stricken Valencia. Silva has played over thirty matches for Spain and is currently on World Cup duty.

Valencia recently sold David Villa to Barcelona for £40million, but the cash-strapped club need to offload further stars and Silva is a valuable asset.

It was reported yesterday in sections of the UK media that Silva will sign a four-year deal at Manchester City worth around £160,000 a week and that the two clubs had agreed a fee.

However, Spanish daily AS quotes Valencia president Javier Gomez who says that "It is true that there is interest in the player but we have not closed any agreement with any club."

So essentially the same thing with Tevez dropping into the hole?

Absolutely not. I mean proper attacking playmaker. Tevez for me would be on the wing in that system as the two wingers should be extremely attacking players when we have two holding midfielders. I'd line them up something like this:

---------------------------------Given
Zabaleta--------Kompany-------Lescott.......Bridge
-----------Yaya Toure------------Barry
-------------------NEW PLAYMAKER/Ireland
Tevez-------------------------------------------Johnson
---------------Adebayor/NEW CENTERFORWARD

When we have the ball, either Toure or Barry joins the attack. Tevez and Jinky would have little defensive duties so they'd be essentially out and out attacking players on the wing. The wingers would also have freedom to cut in and generally roam around in attacking areas. Playmaker would act as a link between defensive midfielders and three out and out attacking players. If I'd ever see that Centerforward on our side of the pitch I'd substitute him immediately and slap him in the face.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Me two and I hope so. I laid out the formation I hope we adopt on this thread last week.

However, there is a good example of two predominantly holding midfielders playing in a 4-4-2 and being successful, Petit - Vieira.

True....thing is with both of those two in their pomp at Arsenal was that they could both really motor along and drive play forward from midfield, and they had the creativity/flair to the outsides of them.

I don't see why the same cannot be true of us if we play 4-4-2 sometimes. Yaya Toure is equipped to play that (Arsenal-era) Vieira role and whether the other be De Jong (who will truly just sit, hold and disrupt) or Barry (who can hold and stabilise and offer a bit more going forward) I dont see why that couldn't work against a lot of teams if we had any of our wingers Johnson, Silva, Bellamy, SWP, Weiss or even Tevez out wide.

97/98 Arsenal side was first that I thought used proper 4-2-3-1 actually. Bergkamp dropped behind Anelka to essentially act as a playmaker. Neither Ljungberg nor Overmars had any defensive duties whatsoever. I didn't think they ever lined up as traditional 4-4-2 with two holding midfielders.
