The most talked-about transfer of the summer so far, and perhaps the one that will set the tone for the rest of the transfer window, swung in Manchester City's direction tonight.
Alexis Sanchez, the sought-after Chilean winger, had been widely tipped over the last 24 hours to have decided on a move to Barcelona, but his club, Udinese, received a staggering and game-changing bid of £40m from Manchester City earlier today.
Barcelona immediately refused to match the fee, and the player has been told by Udinese President Franco Soldati that he would now be moving to Manchester.
The deal will be signed tomorrow, Monday, with a medical examination having already been conducted by both Barcelona and Manchester City in South America.
It now seems clear that Manchester City are going to use their financial muscle to get the players they want with a bid for Sergio Aguero also now in the pipeline.
They also reckon our transfer policy this summer is due to change with the club willing to outbid our nearest rivals in pursuit of the top players so that the deals are completed quickly:
There has never been such excitement and expectation ahead of a transfer window like there has been for this summer.
Often times, there have been one or two teams spending big, such as Madrid and Manchester City or Chelsea and Barcelona before them, but this year had the stamp of something extraordinary.
Roman Abramovich has yet to announce who will manage Chelsea next season, but he has made it clear to those close to the club that he will spend big once again.
Manchester United will likely spend in excess of £100m this summer, as Sir Alex Ferguson is finally having to replace the spine of his aging team.
Barcelona will probably spend more than the €45m budget publicly mooted by a number of club representatives, and of course Real Madrid don't know how not to spend.
Liverpool are already moving in on additional players to go alongside Jordan Henderson, who they spent an estimated £20m on already.
But the biggest hitters this summer are likely to be Manchester City, whose owner has apparently become bored with not getting deals done quickly, and for whom prudence has become tiresome.
A number of high-value deals are already in the offing with Alexis Sanchez, Sergio Aguero and Wesley Sneijder in the mix, but a surprise bid for David Villa may also be key to Roberto Mancini turning City into genuine Champions League contenders.
Less headline-worthy bids for Gary Cahill and Leighton Baines were considered to be coming soon, but bigger deals for Jan Vertonghen and Juan Mata are more likely now as City aim for the very best talent available.
The suggestion from some at City is that deals will be done expensively as long as they are concluded quickly.
A name-your-price attitude is apparently in place at the world's richest club, which may well mean even Real Madrid and Barcelona take a back seat for the next week or so as they wait for Manchester City's dust to settle.

He won't have to run with the ball from the halfway line anymore though. Just get on the end of some through balls & beat players in the final third instead of dribbling all over the pitch.
I think he can be a success, but we'll just have to wait & see.

Believed the Udeni president is playing games to try and hike the price. Tis merely speculation atm, likely barca bound.
It's also believed should we fail in the Sanchez chase we'll move on Pastore.
The old saying rings true, plenty of fish in the sea and a whole summer to fish :D
