Surely we won't actually sign him until either Jan31st or when Ivory Coast are eliminated? Why risk signing a player before a major tournament? If he's hurt and its serious we look like idiots if we have signed him and if we haven't we move onto the back ups

Amazed that some people are saying he's not worth 30m. Him and Kun together upfront would scare the shite out of everyone.

Decent player but not in the £30mil bracket for sure, I'd rather recall Negrado back from loan tbh

Thinking about this situation, the difference between this & many other transfers would be that we are getting a top Premier League player.

When you think about it; such transfers are pretty rare these days. How often does a top Premier League player, striker in particular, sign for another Premier League club nowardays ?

Van Persie. Then who before that ? Tevez ? Prior to that ? Rooney ?

Most come from abroad, go abroad, or are signed before they make it or were not that good in the first place but Brendan Rodgers fancied a dabble.

thre have been a few Ted
Torres Scouse1 to Chavs £50m
Lukaku Chavs to Scouse2 £28m
Remy QPR to Chavs £10.5m
Eto Chavs - Scouse2 FREE
Sturridge Chave - Scouse1 £16m
Shane Long Hull - Southampton £12m
Jelavic Scouse2 - Hull £UND
Lambert Southampton - Scouse1 £4
Wellbeck Rags - Arse £16m
Adebayor Arse - City £25m
Ba Newcastle - Chavs £UND
Crouch many many transfers all around £10m
Bent sunderland - Villa £24m
Carroll Newcastle - Scouse 1 £35m

Looking at some of those, I think Bony's price is about right

I'm meaning a top of the tree, in demand striker or player of any kind. Torres is the only one I would count out of those. A proven top level striker, who most teams would want, moving from one club to another. Carrol almost qualifies, but even he was still a bit of an unknown quantity (still is) & it was fantastically overpriced. Torres almost had to down tools to get a move too. It's not often you get a Van Persie, or indeed Bony, type move between clubs over here.

The rest are mainly unproven, a bit dodgy, veterans or journeymen or Brenadan Rodgers type signings (which includes all).

I don't get this transfer at all if Ivory Coast do well in CAN then we may not see him in our team until the end of Feb and by that time hopefully all our strikers will be fit.

I don't believe it's a signing purely for this season. I think it's a squad adjustment.

Agree, I think one of Dzeko or Jovetic is gone in the summer.

However, this got me thinking as to what this means for Ian Nacho. Let's say he gets his work permit and he becomes one of our four forward options, come the next African Cup we'll lose half our striking options for 6 weeks.

Hopefully more of the academy kids will be playing a part by then. 'Hopefully'.

Perhaps we shouldn't limit ourselves to only four strikers; perhaps five or six would be better to cope with all contingencies ??

Kevin Keegan might agree with that viewpoint.

If Kevin Keegan was still in charge our CL squad would have one Goalkeeper and 24 centre-forwards. And the Sheik would be running short of funds.

I don't know why we're even mentioning the price as it's irrelevant. 30 mil was paid for Wiggy upteen years ago and as long as our financial experts have this then there should be no problems.

The question should only be: Is Bony what we need or at least enhance what we've got?

If the answer is 'Yes' then we'll get it done.

If it's 'No' then he's fucking shit!
