The problem is that the projected number of people who will require hospital care will be very large (due to huge number of infections) and the NHS will not be able to cope. Intensive care beds (and hospital beds) may not be available so people will die.
That is why restrictions are required.
For me we have a duty to protect the elderly so I have no issue with restrictions.

It was interesting to see that Morrisons was rammed this morning, full of elderly people. I’d say 25% of them were wearing a mask and the rest weren’t bothered.

So does flu and I’ve had COVID and flu was far far worse for me .

Most people don’t even know they have it - most go to hospital with the other ailments and then find out they also have omnicron .

I’m not having a big dig at you as there are many like you with that same mid set but the scaremongering by the government has just caused more misery and more mental health problems — amongst bankruptcies for so many people .

Let’s not even touch on the subject of more serious health issues being ignored or being left at the back of the queue due to the panic over a fucking mild dose of corona virus - those avoidable or life prolonging facts will soon surface and then let’s see people with your mindset agree to the restrictions the government have just set out and /or about to set out .

I don't know who is correct and it will all come out in the wash. For me though I believe the official line i.e. huge numbers of infections could occur due to Omnicron varient and this will cause the hospital resources to be overrun.
Where I come from GT 50 per cent of available hospital beds in intensive care are taken up by 8 per cent of the population (the unvaccinated). This results in restrictions being imposed on society (to keep hospital admissions down) and also on other treatments being postponed. For ex, a lung transplant (lung was available and everyone ready to go) was cancelled three weeks ago in a local hospital because resources were required for COVID patients. Also, cancer treatments, etc... are being cancelled.
If that 8% were vaccinated then that lung transplant would have gone ahead.
For me people should get vaccinated, even if it means 10 jabs.
As ever that is only my point of view and I do respect yours. It also makes sense to me.

Don’t really wish to get involved in a deep debate on this but, while I agree everyone should have the right to make their own mind up on matters such as vaccination, they surely should do so on the basis of facts (so far as they are available) and not misleading information.

First, on vaccinated NHS staff: the figure given on the i website (Sept 9th) is 92% having received one or more vaccinations, though there is some regional variation (in London the figure is 86%).

Second, official government figures (coronavirus.data.gov.uk) identify 89.8% of over 12s as having had at least one dose, 82.1% as having at least two doses.

Third, it’s completely true that the proportion of hospital beds occupied by COVID-affected vaccinated individuals has at times been greater than those occupied by unvaccinated patients: indeed the press made a lot of this when the fact became known. However, the figure tells us absolutely nothing and simply reflects a (well known) statistical fallacy most easily seen by considering the extreme case of 100% of the population being vaccinated. In this instance ALL COVID admissions would be those of individuals who had been vaccinated. Of course, this wouldn’t mean the vaccine was ineffective. More generally, as the proportion of the population that is vaccinated increases one would expect the proportion of COVID admissions of vaccinated patients to increase since the vaccine doesn’t eliminate the possibility of catching COVID.

ALL scientific evidence is leaning towards it being much milder than delta. Yes it will take some elderly and some with under lying health problems. But perhaps these people may or will die anyway.

But, we cannot keep shutting down. Mental health is at an all time high. Other vulnerable members of our communities will again miss vital cancer screenings or failure to tackle other health conditions early on. Our children, even those ickle enough not to understand what's going on will suffer for future generations because of this. Our learning disabled friends have managed, but now a lot of them are at breaking point. I could go on.

Me Mam got covid, on a hot ward and due to her dementia she's frail as can be anyway with a long list of things covid should take. Heavy smoker, heart problems, 6 stone, frail, and in her final times . Yet she beats it while my lads double jabbed, 'no under lying health conditions' drum teacher gets it and dead within 9 days. Makes no sense. To be honest cause of the torment of her dementia I'd have rather it taken her than a 52 year old bloke.

Anyways that's where we're at. We CANNOT and should NOT keep locking down.

The main thing for me is that if they lockdown again then people won’t be able to see and be with their dying loved ones. No one wants to go through that and have it hanging over them the rest of their lives. Like you say, mental health will be and is being effected massively here.
