I must confess that I really don't get what this has to do with City

Fair do's to anyone who wants to support another team but just them being called Maine Road something or other doesn't buy any emotional attachment from me.

I know that they are not a splinter group-esque set up like FC United but, even that being so, I'm quite happy just supporting City. I just don't have enough love to go around I guess.

Apologies for bumping an old thread, but not sure it warranted another, and in any case, being only a part-time poster i don't think i could have started one...

I'm a City supporter of twenty years who now watches Maine Road FC whenever City aren't playing; a club founded in the 1950's by a bunch of Sunday League-playing City supporters. This coming Monday we''ve got a cup game against Conference side Hyde, who City also have some sort of link with now we play our EDS games at Ewan Fields.

We average around 100 fans per home game, so obviously we have to do what we can to get a few more people through the gate. Given the club's name and colours, we find a good proportion of those who give it a whirl are Blues, and seeing as this weekend's an international week, we're hoping to get a few more down if possible, so i'm just trying to spread the word via the City forums.

Non-league football mightn't be for everyone, i'm sure City take up the majority of a lot of supporters' time, but if there any Blues out there who like a fix of football when City aren't playing, you'd be more than welcome at Brantingham Road, for this game or any other.

We're based just behind Wilbraham Road near to the centre of Chorlton. It's pay on the gate, normally £5, £3 concessions, with programmes, brews, pies, etc, available.

I'd probably part with some cash for a Maine Road shirt, probably the only shirt other than England that I would ever consider doing so for ... depending on price of course, ie. I ain't paying £45 sheets for it!

Eager to not give it the big sell, but the club did have some t-shirts and polo necks made, the former were certainly available to buy at the ground on matchdays, and formerly on the club website (which has just changed, so the shop section is still to be updated).

The polo shirts are sky blue, with the Maine Road FC badge, which is based on the old City badge (see the players wearing them by going here - http://www.maineroadfc.com/ then to 'Senior', then 'Players & Coaches'). Not 100% sure these are available to buy, but i'll check.

The t-shirts are sky blue, navy, or maroon, i think, and have the Maine Road FC name using a graphic of the old street sign, though i couldn't vouch for which are still in stock.

The new away kit is red and black stripes like the old City aways, with the club badge and is now sponsored by the Didsbury Blues - http://www.didsburyblues.com/80395/info.php?p=13

Are you aware of the historic significance of Bootle to City's history?
They were the 1st team we ever played in the old Alliance in 1891-92 as Ardwick. We drew 3-3 at Hyde Road.
In the away fixture later in the season, Ardwick lost 1-2.....It may have taken a while but I suppose revenge is sweet.

Just looked up Hugh Morris, that Bootle game was his scoring debut....Sadly died of TB at the tender age of 25.

Apologies, but Monday's game has had to be called off due to a serious injury to one of Maine Road's players meaning their game yesterday had to be abandoned. Said fixture (away at Barnoldswick) has had to be rescheduled for midweek.

I'll bump the thread when we get the new date if that's alright, just in case anyone was planning on coming down.

This game has been rescheduled for tonight, weather permitting, if it's of any interest to any fellow Blues.

Maine Road won 2-0, which is a great result considering Hyde are in the Conference.

They now play Trafford at home in the next round in early January.

Hope no-one minds me bumping this old thread, but thought it better than starting a new one.

Maine Road have got a Manchester Premier Cup quarter-final tonight at home to Trafford, so a South Manchester derby. Trafford are going really well the division above Maine Road, so it will be a tough game. Road are currently top of the North West Counties Football League Premier Division, and both sides play decent football.

Just thought i'd mention it in case any fellow Blues fancied it. Beats sitting at home with the Mrs, or watching Cheltenham and Everton kick eachother for ninety minutes!
