I've bided my time waiting to see if this would happen, pretty non plus until now, often wondered whether Paddy (Senegal?) would be a good addition and what he could bring to the club, but having just watched his video on the OS and if he meant what he said then he's going to galvanise a super squad of players.
Captain, well let's wait and see, but it could be on the cards............

Two days ago I put £100 on City to win the league at 23/1. I'm contemplating putting another £200 on.

I feel a rendition of

'We're Gonna Win The League,
we're gonna win the league,
And now you're gonna believe us........

And when was the last time you heard that at Maine Road, let alone at CoMS?
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".

Good luck to you Edge. Let's face it , 23-1 is not bad odds and why would you waste it on a cab when you can drink more

This is why he was brought to the club imo, winners mentality.

Will be Roberto's right hand man in the changing room and will be a positive influence on the younger midfielders i'm sure.

You're absolutely right John.

When the takeover happened, the cynic in me was waiting for the collapse- it seemed inevitable given our recent past. New moons on the horizon that always faded into black clouds. I think it's fair to say that I'm not the only one, it's almost ingrained in blues of a certain age to have that outlook.

But it's not just us fans, it was the culture that was accepted at City for a long time. Guys like Vieira have the presence and personality, off the pitch, to instill a belief in EVERYONE associated with the club. We're talking about a guy that went an entire 38 game season with losing. A guy with a World Cup medal to show for his endeavours along with endless other bits of silverware. He captained what was then the best team in the country. We talk about leaders- if there's a more natural one than Vieira I'd be amazed. Obviously, he's here to play football but it's his character and influence that will be most significant. He's looked at our squad, and the league table, and said 'why can't we win the league?' That kind of attitude and desire will be invaluable to us, and especially our younger players coming through.

Can anyone give a valid reason for us NOT being capable of winning the league NOW, aside from the 'but we're City' line, that admittedly, I used and believed for so long?

Aside from that aspect, when we signed Bellamy this time last year a huge number of people- myself included- were baffled and bemused by the whole thing. We thought we knew him inside out, we thought he'd cause trouble, get injured every few weeks and ultimately run down the clock on his career while picking up a tasty pay packet. HOW WRONG WERE WE? I have my doubts about Vieira from a playing point of view, of course- but he could be a revelation. We just don't know. He could just fit perfectly into the team, into the style of play Mancini wants to implement here and drive us on to success.

Let's not jump to conclusions, they're so often wrong in football.

Great post CtK and of course you're right about us being able to win the league. We can, because we are ten points behind with a game in hand, so with half the season to go we can definitely do it if we find some consistency. It's in our hands, and we should make the most of this chance.

I did this before the start of the season £3,035 at odds of 33/1 - back in June - but I did it with intention of laying the risk off once we bought a bunch of players - once we did we shortened to 14/1 on Betfair and I laid it off - I also did some other bets on Chelsea to win - leaves me winning a couple of K is Chelsea win and more than £50k if CITY win!! - with no risk - please please go on a winning run!!!!

At 23-1 are you not tempted to double up, then lay again in mid Feb assuming we should win the next few games putting us right in contention?

It is a different concept - but much more interesting - I am a 'layer' mostly meaning I am the bookie

but you need to be able to find the balance at backing when prices are going to be higher - e.g. CITY to win the PL last June - then lay when the odds shorten - Ie after we bought the players - so no-lose position is achieved

CITY currently 13/ 1 so I could lay them for £4k and that will take away £42k of my potential leaving me winning £10k if CITY win and £4k is someone else does

Tempting - but I am going to hold for a bit
