Currect calculation for estimate of extra seats would surely be;

number of seats in level 3 east and west x number of seats in level 2 north and south
number of seats in level 2 east and west

Don't forget the corners and what will be gained by straitening the curves on the east and colin bell stands

That's 5275 x 3600 / 4381 = 4334

Current capacity = 47540 + 4334 + 4334 = 56208

Agreed. It would be great if we could fill it as it is first though!

here's a question to ponder is the san siro to big for AC and inter
Capacity 80,000 inters average is 48,000 AC 41,000
Its only full for their derby and nearly full for the CL semi's
No one seems to talk about a half empty stadium.
we can get 60k if it is priced right and marketed right for 6-8 games
50k plus for all other league games
I still don't see the point of having a stadium that's too big for you?

If they can market the tickets right and fill the place, or at least average 90% capacity then great, but I can't get my head around the idea of adding 8000-9000 seats to a stadium for the sake of a couple of games per season.

I know we´ve discussed it before KK, but you need to get your head round it! You need a little vision beyond little old Ciddy.

Firstly there have been several games sold out this season. Secondly remember how Chelsea had crowds mainly in the 20,000s throughout the 90s, but as Roman came with a bit of success he grew the match-going fan base. Thirdly we are not talking about August 2010, but 2 or 3 years down the line. Fourthly Arsenal easily sold out the Emirates, because bigger stadia bring more fans - not sure why, but they do.

I dont doubt our owners´ambitions to be the biggest and the best. Our crowds are growing year on year and global appeal is just beginning. I have no doubt we have a larger core support than Chelsea, and probably Arsenal.

I cannot understand your not seeing this to be honest.

If you look at how many seats are lost by the slope on the East & West stands, if there was no slope & it went straight accross at full height instead, like the Kippax used to, the number of 3rd tier seats on each side would be almost doubled. Then if you add four 3rd tier corner sections & two 3rd tier end sections, the increase in capacity would be enormous.

One thing about very tall covered stadia is providing sufficient light for grass to grow. In the US and Far East most of the new big stadia have artificial pitches which don't need to take account of this.

They have a sunlamp machine which they wheel around the pitch.

It's only ever look like that if we got the Champions League Final and they decided to play it in the afternoon. The rest of the time there would be a lot more empty seats.

Stadium half full would be even worse. Imagine tier 3 of the north stand.

That's 5275 x 3600 / 4381 = 4334

Current capacity = 47540 + 4334 + 4334 = 56208

thank you.

54740 (approx)

I think 3 tier its meant to be around 60,000. It'd be pretty much the same size as Emirates.
But you're just guessing whereas I am basing mine on proper sums.

The 2nd tier of the South Stand holds 3600 so if you add 2 more of these on the the ends of the ground you increase the capacity by 7200. The current capacity is 47540 so the new look ground would hold 54740.

Alternatively, the entire 2nd tier holds 15923 so if the 3rd tier held the same the capacity would be 52857 (the bottom tier holds 21011)

Which ever way you look at it, we're not going to get to 60k.

P.S. Having been to The Emirates a few times I can't see how it can realistically be compared in size to our ground.

They should clearly get you in to be lead architect on the project.
