Madness, utter madness. To compare Ireland with Arteta, that is. The two players are worlds apart.

Sorry, I'm not getting you mate?

Ireland from last season pulled the strings in midfield, got stuck in and broke up attacks and had a killer pass on him, as well as finishing.

Arteta does all that to a certain degree, but I'd prefer Ireland from last season to him now.

I'm saying that I believe Arteta to be a top class footballer who has performed consistently well in the Premiership for a few years. Everton's upturn since his return is no coincedence. I don't want to slag Stevie off but I just don't think the two of them are comparable. Worlds apart.

Look at my OP again chief.

I'd rather Stevie from last season above Arteta any day of the week. There's a difference between performing "consistently well" and being nominated for YPOTY. I agree Arteta has been better than good for the last three of four years, but since Ireland matured, he's had one outstanding season and one pretty shit. And he's only 23.

Who would you rather, Ireland from last season or Arteta from any one season he's EVER had?

Arteta, without a shaddow of a doubt. Seriously mate. I think he's top drawer. For all those years he has been at Everton they have been without a decent centre forward yet his assists and goals scored is up there with the best in the league. He is class. He's grown a set of balls at Everton which he never had at PSG, Rangers or Sociedad. Put it this way, if a top team wanted them both this summer, Arteta would command a fee at least triple Stevie's, at least.

I would love to see us buy him.

I'm not down on Stevie, we should keep him. He was superb for us last year and could well go on and reach those levels again. I just don't fancy him to do it and think that even on last seasons form, he isn't in Arteta's class.

If they sold him to us would they say that he's shit anyway and that Jagielka is far better?

Haha. Quality.
Berbatov wins golden boot, spends following season on the bench while his team loses title on goal difference. Well played, Fergie.

it was me who suggested him in another thread.

I think hes the best of what we can realistically get now were not in champs league, gourcoffs a good shout but think id rather arteta based on fact hes played in premiership. Would gourcoff join us aswell with no CL?

This is the sort of player were in the market for a best of the rest or not quite good enough for the better teams. I think arteta is top drawer and massively underrated.

I think some are missing the point about who we should and should not buy.

The key for the summer purchases is to bring those players in that have City push towards winning the League.

I thought we would get CL last night , but it was not to be.
I think the Europa league , whilst not the CL is a good distraction to have in the steady march towards winning the EPL.

After going so close , so many times this season. The target must be to win the damn thing next season.

Arteta is without doubt a good player, but like most of Moyes's little group , he will cheat to get a point or more.

The guy should have been sent off the other week for poking a player in the eye.

Such arrogance is certainly not needed in a player.

Are you suggesting that any player who is found to have breached the rules of the game should be scrubbed off our transfer target list?

we need a playmaker 'midfield general': one who can dominate,.....and run the show
Arteta isn't that
Sadly, it looks like Ireland never will be it
At least not for us.

We also need a left back
(or perhaps Barry or Lescott to switch)

Is it all a pile of shite in your opinion, or the part about Arteta ?

Quite frankly, I don't think that Arteta is the right player for City anyway, never mind the cheating mentality to which I referred.

No, I thought the stuff about him poking someone in the eye and us not needing that type of player was bizarre. There are few less dirty midfieldrs in the Prem than Arteta and I couldn't believe you used him being being a dirty player as a reason not to buy him.

Well, The 'eyepoke' is only the last of several events involving Arteta.

there is no doubt that Arteta is a good footballer, but i often wonder why players need to stoop so low ?

Nah, I'm sorry, you're wide of the mark here. I don't recall any of these 'several events'.

I'm struggling to think of a midfielder in the Prem who is more fair. If you applied these rules to our signing policy then there would be very few midfielders in Europe who would be available to us.

You've lost me. Not liking a player is part of being a football fan but I just don't get you here with your theory that he is a snide, cheating bastard. He's clearly not.

Have you got him mixed up with Tim Cahill??
