I know its stating the obvious. but the games in the USA, are about spreading our name across the states. It would be very unwise to send a poor side, that gets hammered by a poor stateside team.

K
If we want to spread our name, take cheerleaders and hand out hot dogs. Pele played there and they still couldn't get their head round it.

All joking aside, I think trying to build a brand in the US really is a waste of time, as they don't take soccer seriously. If we want to make money, places like India and China are far more important. Let's get Sun Jihai back quick.

I agree with you. As i go on tour with city this summer i'll let cookie and co know what a massive massive fucl up it is to bring them here. He bottled it. Plain and simple.

Oh and i shaved my nuts for you so that as you lick them they are as smooth as can be. Thank me later.

Cheers

i can't tell if this is a joke or just a post made in poor taste by an england-centric goof.

also, pretty sure sun jihai is neither indian or chinese.

cheers.

Since he played for China, I assume he's Chinese. I'm serious about breaking into those countries if we want to make money. They have large middle classes forming, not all of whom have yet been exposed to the rags. It would be easiest to do that with someone from that country in the side, but that's not going to happen at the moment, as they don't have the quality. Maybe we need to set up some academies and links to local sides to try and get our name known.

Anyone know what happened to all those links we set up under Frank?

Assclown,

More tickets to the world cup matches have been sold to the US than any other country so far.

What do you make of that, sweetcheeks?

Your pity is firmly rejected. I am lucky enough to live in a fantastic place where hard work and skill has given me loads of opportunity. Hope you feel the same way about the place you live in.

Cheers

Sure do, live in Manchester, which is the best place in the world. Hard work and skill gives loads of opportunities in the UK too, although going to Eton would certainly make it easier!

Had a great uncle who emigrated there in the 20s and went from being a farm boy in Canada to chief highway engineer for Portand, so honestly, I have nothing against the place. Not been to America yet, unless you count an hour stopover in Maine airport, but I'm hoping to make it with the kids next year. Hopefully, we'll see more than just Disneyland too.

Sorry if I've offended anyone. I'm bored with no football and no transfers to talk about, so thought we could start a bit of friendly banter ahead of the World Soccer Bowl. I forgot that perhaps the Americans aren't as self deprecating as Brits and a lot more patriotic - can't imagine a thread starting about how people are twitchy about having the stars and stripes on display.

I would hope that between now and June 12th there will be a lot of grief flying in both directions and a lot of stick after the event. Thankfully, sticks and stones don't break bones, but if you beat us, some idiot will burn down a McDonalds. No, seriously, they will.

Just got my tix for the Baltimore match, it's only 20 min from my house. I'm hoping to get tix for the NY matches too. It'll be so amazing to see City play in person for the first time.

Question for all the American fans - why do you support City? Some of you have been on here for a few years, so you're not fans because of the money. Is it family connections, Claudio Reyna or did you just enjoy Pearce's attacking football?

have tickets to the NY games gone on sale yet?

been playing soccer (football) all my life, but it was pretty different growing up.. no local team besides the indoor Harrisburg Heat/Hershey Impact, but that's not really the same..

so i looked elsewhere...1995- i was a big fan of oasis, so it made sense that i started following man city and like 13 years old, so that's how it all started for me.

never been to a real football game before, so i am super excited for this weekend USA-Turkey..
that will be a great pre-cursor for the City games next month!
so stoked.

I sorta just picked City blindly on Fifa 05 plus they had Reyna who I liked. I got to doing some research on the team and liked everything I read plus I had just got Fox Soccer Channel which made it possible to follow the team. One of the first games I saw of City was the derby win that year. Andeez, NY tix go on general sale Friday at 2pm eastern. I think they're on sale to Red Bull season ticket holders now. I know there's a presale for the games in baltimore and the code is SOCCERFAN10.

Just got my tickets to the game in Baltimore. Thanks Freddie for the promo code.

I got into City because my Dad is a Blue and when I started to follow the English game more closely I was lucky enough to be born into a team. Most of my friends here in DC are Arsenal fans. I am taking my Dad to one of the games in Jersey as his birthday present this year, probably the best present I could ever get him.

Forget making any fucking excuses to anyone why you support City.

I do agree though that from financial point of view usa is the wrong market to aim at. Far east is DEFINITELY the market we should try to tap into. Chinese are almost like virgins when it comes to football support and that's one sixth of world's population there. Chinese love football, are just getting into Premier League and is massively growing economy. Extended tour there might actually impress some people. Also, you see groups of Chinese travelling all over Europe these days so they'd bring in some extra match day revenue as well.

Another wise business plan would be to target India, Pakistan and rest of via area. Make us friendly club for anyone from there and first and foremost Asian community in Britain.

Then there's Japan. Those people LOVE to spend dosh. I went to Chelsea game some five years ago (we were playing in London the very same weekend) and honestly people here moan about day trippers but it seemed to me that at least where I had ticket, I was sitting with half of Asia and to say they were impressed with relatively dull 0-0 is an understatement of the century.

Now as far as the USA goes, there are fanatic supporters there as we can see from this very site but I don't feel there's really that much growth potential. They have their own sports with big crowds and I feel that for the masses in usa the franchise nature of their sports makes the biggest appeal of club football, deep rooted heritage and loyalty for life and beyond, go missing. In country as big and as diverse as USA there are bound to be people who are deep into it but as far as growth goes, those people are too few and far between to create any massive markets.

Still, from marketing point of view it's better than doing pre-season tours in Sweden or Germany. That is just pointless as people there already support clubs, either domestic or English.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Is this going to be played on artificial turf?

How many of the other games will be also if that is indeed the case??

Can't think that is great for the players' safety/knees etc

The turf isn't good for players knees ant ... although it has come quite a long way since the early days of "astro turf" and the stadiums they will be using are some of the most advanced in the world as regards turf fields... but I personally don't trust them. fucked up my knees (tbh on far worse surfaces) too many times.

Thanks for moving the discussion forward. To clarify, this wasn't a dig at anyone or trying to make out anyone is a glory hunter (obviously). As I stated, a lot of the American fans have been on here a few years, well before the money, so why choose City? If the premier league is big on TV in the US, I can understand people picking a team, but we've hardly been the most attractive. Often it can be a single game that attaches someone to a foreign team, so it was a genuine question about why City.
