Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I did read it, yes, you said you were just debating the merits of our new signings. I also replied an said that it was a decent explanation.

However, what prompted the post I made on transfer thread and the one on this is the fact that the only debating I have seen you doing around our new signings is spouting negativity towards them. I've yet to see you say a positive word about them.

In Silva's case, it's his lack of physicality, not his pace and creativity you want to discuss, in Boateng's case it's the fact you saw him play some poor games in the bundesliga, not the fact that he has had an excellent world cup and in Yaya's case, it's the fact that you would rather we opten for the washed up Thomas Hitzlsperger (that was the icing on the cake btw).

I can't make you out. We've made three excellent signings yet you seem determined to talk them down.

You need to cheer up. If not, don't get arsey when you get called out for being a miserable sod.

NO. You don't get it. I hope people wouldn't build too much pressure on these new signings. It will take time for them to make the adjustments to their game. There's already "will we challenge for the title" topic there. Slow start to the season and people will be on their backs. I've seen it millions of times.

Regarding Hitzelsberger, I DID say it half in jest and also said that Toure is better player. You and some other people here just read what they want to see. However this topic is about signings of other clubs and I DO think Hitzelsberger is smart signing on free. He was absolutely brilliant for Stutgart most of the time there. Team captain and was chosen to Bundesleague XI selected by Kicker at least twice. Again in superform in Euro2008. Only in past 6 months has it gone downhill for him. Marcus Babbel took captaincy off him and made the decision to sell him in december. Of course Babbel himself was sacked soon after and rightly so. He was injured most of his time in Lazio and apparently didn't like it at all in Lazio. But to say he has been crap eversince leaving Villa is nothing short of ridiculous. He has 51 caps for Germany and was regular starter throughout their qualifying campaign. This is no mickey mouse player, trust me. Despite what some people are saying here.

Regarding Boateng, I've said from the very fucking start that he has all the raw attributes to make very good player. But he is still raw. I watched Germany's (brilliant) win last night on tape when I came back from the sea and had the priviledge of reading comments about his performance beforehand and therefore paid extra attention on him. He was very very good defensively (as I expected) but with ball on his feet he occasionally looked lost. That is something that can be put down to inexperience. During the last season he was just like Micah (I paid extra attention on him as we were after him eversince christmas), occasionally absolutely brilliant, occasionally little bit lost. I have no critism of him as a project as all the attributes are there and I don't think he is far off. But then again, I think the same about Micah and overall concensus here seems to be that Micah is shite. People may be setting unfair expectations on this lad yet again. And we all KNOW what that means in worst case.

I'm not going to go overboard either way regarding any signings. Some of them will turn out to be Robinho's and some of them will turn out to be Benarbia's. That I'm certain off. Some will work, some will not. I will wait seeing them over period of time before making any sort of judgement. EVERY player in this world have strentgths and weaknessess. Silva for example, technically brilliant, fast as fuck, good eye for openings and very good crosser of the ball. However he is slight at build and has received lot of protection from referees in Spain, which is standard there. He said only year ago when Rags were trying to sign him that he would prefer to stay in Spain and would not like to go to England. So there are definite question marks over him. Not to acknowledge these things would be foolish and in worst case setting him for failure. I mean, how many similar players we've seen who have come to Premier League with great reputation and undisputed skills and fail? There IS such possibility. I fucking hope and pray it will not happen and that he will show strength of character to be vital for us. And I think he will given time. I'd say it will take him at least six month to one seasonto get used to new surroundings properly but after that he could easily turn out to be one of the best players in the league. We all just need to be patient.

Regarding Yaya, if I had to guess I'd say he will be like fish in the water in Premierleague. I think he will flourish in his new surroundings and the style of play will suit him. I'm not so much critical of him as a player. I'm more worried that we seem to be buying loads of defensive midfielders and I'm little bit worried about the system Mancini will use. But we will only see what happens once the season kicks off.

And thing is, I'm not being miserable AT ALL. I'm extremely happy about these signings as I think they are all very good additions. I'm just trying to remain realistic and analyse these players. In fact, I don't think I have ever been this positive about our future.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Re Newcastle/Perch, I e-mailed one of my Geordie mates as to who he was and got this clip from one of their forums sent back to me :o)

'Forest Fan' wrote at 14:50 on 04 Jul:
Morning all I am a season ticket holder at Forest and just want to give you heads up on James Perch, now despite what Des-little is spouting taking in to account he is one of the biggest ********ters on Vital forest, James perch remains one of the most hated players and one that most fans want rid off, a truly awful player he alone cost us 3 goals in the playoffs against Blackpool, the guy has NO positional awareness at all his tackling (meant to be his strongest point) has no thought put in to it he just runs in like a headless chicken wins the ball then proceeds to give it away in the very next breath, his passing is a joke without doubt one of the worst at the club, no positivity at all , it’s always sideways or backwards and always leaving huge spaces behind him for others to exploit I.e. just watch the Blackpool highlights to see what I mean.

The only reason a club like Newcastle would be interested in a player like Perch is because of one major factor, Colin Calderwood who thought the sun shined out of his ****. At the end of the day we would be so happy to see him leave and if this does come off, great for us but **** for you, believe me he is very very bad..

Good luck for the season!

I have never even heard of this bloke and perhaps he IS dogs bollocks, I don't know, but year ago he was still in ranks of French second division side. Now he got 8.5m transfer to top Premier League side as replacement of William Gallas. At 24 years of age this has to be either one of the most foolish transfer ever OR absolute masterstroke by Wenger. Then again, Drogba was still playing French second division at the age of 25. So who knows.

Anyway, I'd say that has got to be one of the most peculiar transfers this summer and surely Vermaelen must be already having nightmares of next season and his new cneterback pairing.

Don't know about that mate. Vermaelen was regular in Ajax side since about age of 20 and the couple of times I saw him for Ajax and especially live for Belgium he really stood out.

But like I said, it could be another masterstroke by Wenger..........

I thought Vermalen was one of the resons Arsenal struggled; great footballer but not in the same world as the great Arsenal defenders of the past. Be interesting to see how good this new bloke is but I'll reserve judgement 'till they play a few 'wet Wendnesday' teams.

Wenger didn't build Arsenal's great defence though, it was there when he arrived, he just added to it & kept it going for a few years until it finally disappeared. So far he's shown no indication whatsoever that he has the ability to build a new one.

Wenger knows his French football - never heard of him personally but that's no surprise.
