The Evil Empire begins to fall - evidence....

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I understand how this has gone down the route of " We have nothing to crow about" and I would wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment.

However, as the best supported club in Britain, it is surely a sign of the situation they find themselves in that the huge waiting list has disappeared and instead they have season tickets on open sale to non-members. Its largely irrelevant to me that we are behind them in the league, to me it is signs that there are real, real problems with the fan base which I really didnt think would ever happen. The assumption that they didnt need the green and yellow fans has backfired, as the people they expected to buy their tickets havent materialised.

They won the CC last year, and looked nowhere near a title winning side. The best description for them was that their teamwork made them "efficient". With no further signings on the horizon, they are not getting better on the field - far from it, and I simply cannot see them being contenders next season with the squad they have - yes they will be up there, but not seriously going toe to toe with Chelsea.

As that on-pitch malaise sets in, ultimately not only will they fail to sell the ground out, but they will stop selling the shirts they need to service the debt. An empire built on the shifting sands of a fickle asian fan base, good luck to them.

I heard it when the Shiek took over – Just a Premiership and CL final for them that year.

I heard it last season when they sold their best player and we took one of their key players – 2nd and took it to the last day as well as taking 6 points off us and knocking us out of a semi final which represented the best chance of us ever winning a trophy in my life time.

One thing U***d have right now in their side which money cant buy is team spirit and knowing how to win trophies. I support a football team not a bank balance and as long we they are finishing way ahead of us and winning trophies every season they will continue to lord it over us.

You know the funny thing is they are forced to do this as fans are refusing to buy tickets. The fans are idiots they are doing it out of protest to get Glazers out as they think if they don't buy tickets the Glazers are gonna lose money and leave. When in fact they will still take as much cash they will just spend less on players and there team will suffer instead for it. But of course there too fucking retarded to see there stupid green and yellow bullshit campaign is doing nothing but actually hurting the club and not hurting the Glazers who are riding the wave.

Funny this thread is going at the moment. Theres just been something about football in South Africa on and I must admit I wasn't really taking any notice of it, but the guy said something about "it would be like playing Manchester City" in the same sort of context as the scum would have been quoted over the last 30 odd years.

Yeah, I heard that too. A guy was describing games in Robben Island jail. He said something along the lines of "The games were like The Kaiser Chiefs against Manchester City".

My first thought was, that tour last year was a success then.

You're right Vhero and the other thing is that like shares (I know they don't have shareholders anymore) once they go low enough people will buy them because they see a profit to be made on a low risk punt. U****d may, I repeat may end up in financial meltdown and if the Glazers do decide to bale out there will be a queue of companies wanting to buy the brand because they will become cheap and markey forces will take over. Just like syphilis, we'll never see the back of them.

Thanks Carl - glad someone gets it - those who talk about "...lets win something 1st..." simply do not understand the real point..

That is not a criticism of them - it is just that the point is not about whether we are now (or going to be) better than the SCBs (scum red bastards) - it is not a comparison between us and those twats (although our impending success makes it all the sweeter) the point is that the evil empire is falling and it is a reason to rejoice - even if we were in the conference

That is what I think the the OP meant - he understands

Not being pointed but do not think that you have been following the Glazer / Scum financial position very well if you think this is really the case.

I do not want to drag it all up again in detail but would summarise as follows:

1/ The scenario you suggest will never happen unless the creditors call it in and force a sale to recover their money - this would only happen if the scum revenues fall too low to meet the payments. This is an almost impossible position over the next few years because their revenues can easily a) meet the payments, b) meet the milking off by the Glazers - but c) not fund other major investments such as top players

2/ The Glazers have recently changed the scum constitution to allow them to milk £10s millions every year from the club - imagine that as a pension and the annuity that would be required to meet that figure, which means:

3/ There is no conceivable reason why they would choose to sell - as has been recently proven - it would take someone willing to meet that 'annuity value' - which probably means someone paying > £500m over the market value - well there are sugar daddies - but sorry who would do this? who has shown any inclination? - Red Knights proved this to be the case also and they were willing to go quite a bit over the market value

So the position is a perfect one for us scum haters - the Glazers are locked on like a massive leech - they will drain for many years and every one of these years will take them down a bit more

Sit back and enjoy the slide

Now we are playing in pretty much the same league as the scumbags, the rivalry will become more intense IMO. For the last 20 years we may have sometimes been in the prem at the same time as them but we were never in the same league. Its hard to have a bitter rivalry with teams who play almost a different game to yourselves. United didnt really care about us apart from 2 games a season as we were no threat to them. Of course we were the ones dreaming of toppling them again one day, hence bitterness towards their success from certain areas of support.

Now we are once again competing in all areas rather than just twice a season on the pitch, the heat will increase and I think the reignition of the City United rivalry will be a bonus for the Premiership and will probably drive both teams onto greater success.

Nothing brings out the best in a team than trying to beat their rivals, on the pitch, in the table, in the trophy cabinet.

It should be excellent.

A decent article up until the point where he states that Owen Hargreaves has been the best England player of the last decade. Laughable.
