What have you been watching for the last year. He has been somewhere between poor and appalling in the vast vast majority of games he has played.

That performance was world class, goal or no goal. The tackling, the teaming up with De Jong & Yaya hunting the ball down, Barry has never played like that in a city shirt, he has never been involved in a game so much in all his time here.

Watching the same as Bobby I think who keeps picking him.
Poor and appalling yet a consistent starter.

When the alternative was Stephen Ireland, I can't blame Mancini for picking him.

I also think Barry always had more to offer than De Jong so based on the squad that was available to chose from, I would have picked him for every game too because I would have had no choice.

So if he was so poor and appalling and there was Kompany,Zabellta,SWP,Vierra,Sylvinho and Garrido who could play in that position he still managed to keep his place then and now.Bobby did have a choice.
There were a few time when De Jong lost his place and Gareth didn't.Why is that?

Er, did I not say that I thought Barry had more to offer than De Jong?

Kompany was clearly a CB in Mancini's eyes, Vieira played a small handful of games, and where the fuck do SWP, Sylvinho and Garrido fit in this argument? Barry didnt start on the wing once last season as far as I can remember.

They have all played in midfield.Clueless had SWP there a few times. The Scunthorpe match comes to mind for Sylvinho.Vierra quite a few times.Garrido I cant remember so maybe I'm wrong but to say that Bobby had no options is somewhat of the mark to me.So after listing his options as you say Gareth was probably the best of what he had to choose from and that probably was not of a very high standard so his options where somewhat limited.
However calling him poor and appaulling is way OTT in my book.
Even if he was the best of a bad bunch that bunch where not that bad and therefore in my view he hasn't been as bad as some say.

Moment of the match for me was his double tackle in the first half when Liverpool broke down our left hand side. It showed skill and desire and showed that he had the fight for the battle. It was brilliant!!!!
