1 point from those 3 games says you are wrong.I sort of know what you mean but if the manager thinks the same as you he might as well leave now. I am sure he doesnt so he doesnt have to leave but he seriously has to solve the problem.

How can you say i am wrong then sort of agree? We battered sunderland, blackburn and everton but weren't good enough to beat them, and i don't get how if the manager thinks the same as me then he might as well leave when i suggested he needs to find a way to do everything right and still win?

All in all a confusing post from you Douglas.

Quite explanatory, 1 point from 3 games that you mention........... ah well.

Did we really batter all them team's?

I know we got 1 point from 3 games which is why i said we need to learn how to win the games against sides who park the bus when we dominate which we currently don't do. The stats suggest we do in terms of possesion and chances.

Frickin Hell, how can you do everything right but win. It's like saying 'If that was on target it'd have been a goal'!

We lost, we were out-smarted by a team who were 5th from bottom. It's a learning curve mate and another Bogey Team who've had us over, get over it.

We weren't out smarted, we had a poor start and were punished by a team who only had 2 shots on target and took those chances.

We outplayed them, we out passed them, we created 25 chances and hammered them for 90 mins. We did everything right but win, we were unlucky with the balotelli post chance, could of had a few pens ect. Hopefully sooner rather than later we will be able to break down teams who come and play with 10 men behind the ball and are very disicplined for 90 mins because that is the type of respect we now have.

OK, let's look back. Did we win? Did we put the ball in the back of the net? Did they put the ball in the back of the net more than them? Did Balotelli's chance go in the back of the net, and what about Cahill's?

As for Balotelli's chance, as I said, if it was on target, it would've been a goal.

We lost! We are not top at Christmas! We are 2 points behind the top of the league who have 2 games in hand! We could only be 2 points in front of Spurs if they beat Blackpool. We could make the CL! We could take the World by storm!

Who know's, one game that we lost, I'm sure you're used to it?

All in all tonight it was blindingly obvious we were the better side and we were robbed.

Its no big deal we have done the same to others on many an occasion, football is like that end of.
You can dominate a game stats wise but if you dont take your chances and the opposition do, well then your pretty much fucked.
,
Awful result against a team i now love to hate but we did deseve better tonight. They were very lucky, all decisons seemed to go in their favour and it just was not our night.

None of those catagories are an apt description imo. We were, on the whole, on a different planet from Everton but only a complete idiot would suggest we did everything right. We did almost everything wrong but we have such quality & had such attacking intent that we almost got away with it. Our possession game is 2nd to none but we are clueless at what to do with it.

If Everton, even with their dismal scoring record, had the kind of possession in dangerous areas that we had, they would score five or six goals & three or four of those would be headers. The encouraging difference between this game & the earlier similar games though was that the attacking determination was there. The discouraging thing is that we have no method for scoring goals other than breakaways. The answer, which eluded Hughes & has so far eluded Bob, is to sign a proper centre forward who wants, DEMANDS AND WILL FIGHT TO WIN THE BALL IN THE BOX. If he doesn't score, the bloke next to him will.

I thought we were unbelievably sloppy in possession too many times last night. The opening 25-30 minutes was strewn with examples of some of our best footballers just passing straight to the opposition or totalling telegraphing their intentions, leading to passes too easily cut out.

That combined with some pretty shoddy defending at points and profligate finishing is why we did not emerge with any points last night.

Sure we can point the finger at Everton's time wasting, them parking the bus, the referee and his assistants being "off message" when it comes to the law around handball etc etc but that should not take away from the fact that we had enough possession and plenty enough talent to have put that game to bed.

The fact that we did not means that we did indeed fail a big test.

In between all of the above we did play some nice stuff but a combination of:

- No-one putting their foot through the ball in the area/Arsenal-esque overelaboration
- Terrible final balls into the box
- No aerial threat whatsoever
- A good performance from Tourettes and
- Some typical city thrown in for good measure

saw us come away with sweet FA

I didn't think we played badly but it is 100% our fault that we lost and that fucking annoys me, just like it does when it's not 100% our fault

Last night our problem was that Everton had eleven players into their own box, and the referee didn't spot even one of the three blatant handballs they committed.

I think, however, that our way of attacking was wrong. We kept playing crosses from out wide but we don't have a centre forward who can head the ball into the net, not if Balotelli drifts wide and even if he stays in the middle he is a decent header but not Drogba by any means, heading is not his main strength; thus, atatcking that way was only going to help Everton defend. As hard as it may have been, considering the bus parked in front of Howard, we should have got into their box ball on the ground, with fast passing to open the space and then a through ball to set one man against their keeper. Bit like the chance Balo sent on the post, he was alone against Howard and a bit unlucky on the outcome (but he could have put down that ball better in the first place, and he would have had a bit more time to better place it past the keeper)

Yes that was pathetic and gutless defending and don't forget Kompany wandering off (I don't know why ??) and leaving Cahill unmarked.
I don't agree that we did everything right. Conceding 2 soft goals in 20 minutes is inexcusable.

Great post Ant, I totally agree! We obviously didn't do everything right, since we were 2-0 down after 15 minutes. After that Everton parked the bus and let us come at them, but we just lacked that little bit extra to break them down. Yes, we were unlucky at times and should've had at least one penalty, but most of all our not scoring was down to our not playing well. We didn't use the wings enough, but crowded the area just in front of the Everton penalty area. When we did get it to the wings, the crosses were poor, and there were only midgets at the other end of them (bar the Everton defence).

Very very poor defending for both their goals and in this division you get severly punished for schoolboy errors like that. No clinical edge to our finishing either. Disappointing show all round. If they weren't already, Everton are turning into our real bogey team. At least i had Cahill for first goal, that little fucker wins me a few quid every time.

Hmmm, how do I feel?
  • Well we didn't turn up for over 25 minutes and were punished accordingly.
  • Kolarov and Kompany went AWOL for the first goal which was comedy defending all round
  • Our passing was all over the place in the first half and always behind the player who needed an extra touch or two to get the ball under control.
  • Our right back goes off the pitch for treatment for over 8 minutes!! We then concede down the left. It was so predictable and I lay the blame purely on Mancini for that error. He knew he'd dropped as massive bollock too when they scored by his reaction.
  • During those 8 minutes the watching the bench was comical. No one had a clue, Mancini waving his arms, Boateng standing up, sitting down, standing up. A complete mess that could and should have being avoided.
  • We were lucky not to go 3 down with a stupid pass across the pitch which was intercepted.
  • When we finally settled into the game after 25 mins we started to get the ball but to say we outclassed Everton is completely incorrect. They'd scored two away from home and decided to shut up shop after 20mins to get the win. We were bound to get lots of the ball. We couldn't score though so Everton outclassed us on the evening with superior defending against our weak attacking.
  • Silva could find his man to save his life last night, every pass was hit too lightly and didn't reach its man. Both Tevez and Silva were getting in the way of our other midfielders coming out wide and dropping short and not getting into the box.
  • We lost shape whilst Everton kept a superb bank of defenders and midfielder blockers.
  • Mario better start eating Mushrooms or banging that Princess before the match cos he was anything but super.
  • Kolarov's set pieces remind me of Roberto Carlos. THAT is not a complement by the way. He's a hit it as hard as you possibly can type of player - not much skill and the ball can end up anywhere - occasionally on target. Most of his corners were hit so hard that no one had time to make a run and get on the end of the cross.
  • We only got going when Everton were down to 10 men and some gaps starting appearing in the last 20 when they were getting tired.
  • Tevez was again too greedy for his own good. He needs to start passing and moving rather than just running the length of the 18 yard box and getting tackled.
  • Johnson looked very nervous for him, refusing to shoot when he was in the right position to do so.
  • Barry looked very good in the middle
  • Yaya got outmuscled by the Jackson Five
  • Special award for Zaba, most kicked player in a match ever and he never complained once. Total legend
  • We have a real problem scoring goals at home against teams that know how to defend. We just do not have enough movement in the final and nobody makes late runs in the box, it's all too predictable, too slow and easy to defend against. We get the ball move it forward, pass it out to the wing, back into the middle, up to Tevez who runs and runs and runs, gets tackled or is forced to pass, it goes back out to the wing, back across the centre, we get bored and play it high into the box for Tevez or Silva to head it. We need more than one way of attacking as this form of possession football has proven to fail against teams that defend.
  • Tim bloody Cahill!! We should sign him just to stop him scoring against us :-( Mancini has a real problem with Moyes, he's just doesn't know how to play teams like Everton.
  • I was, however, pleased that the players tried hard out there and didn't let their heads drop when 2 nil down.

The whole back four were barely wider than our six yard box for the first goal - Everton went deep into the second half with only two shots on target (which they scored from), we started slowly for 20=30 mins but still didn't do enough once we'd woken up a bit, though we pressed them hard after their sending off which I was glad to see.
