Poor Stevie. Something went wrong in his head I reckon. He had the problems with the Irish squad, then all that bollocks with his hair. Finally seemed to be getting things straight and then Robinho and Elano left and since then his world has pretty much fallen apart. Hughes wanted him to play in a position he was unfamiliar with and he has fundamentally failed to fit into any role at Villa. Seemed like a nice kid doing good works for charity outside his football stuff. Terrible shocking awful sense of style but cant hold that against him. Hope he finds his feet again somewhere. Celtic might be perfect for him, it worked for gorgeous and I can see Stevie doing well their too.

Ha ha, it was more of an observation both ways than any attempted wind up to be honest ... it just seems to sum up al;ot of this thread, thats all. We've been here before mind so I'll avoid in future to stop any confusion that you may have over my postings and mine with yours.

Im not an Ireland lover but i just dont see what Milner has improved in our squad. He dosent even have the excuse of not playing in the Prem League before. Hopefully he can improve quickly and show us it was worth all the hassle. Liverpool at home is the only cracking game i can think of him having.

Are you shitting me?

Milner is twice the player Ireland is...even if he isn't the strongest link in our team

Ireland was a one season wonder who has since been found out

You'll be telling us how good Bojinov was for us next...

I know but i was looking more into what Milner has actually done so far on the pitch which is pretty much fuck all.

And Valeri was class!!!!!!!!!!

; )

In direct comparison to Ireland who has done what at Villa? Absolute f*ck all.

Atleast Villa have the dosh to show after that pisstake of a deal. Not a fan of Ireland in his Clark Kent form, but if the team needed someone to run around a bit Vassell would've been a much cheaper option.

I know, who cares about money and all that, but it bugs me still.

We paid 16 mil cash for Milner plus Ireland...bearing in mind that Ireland has been worth fuck all to Villa i'd say that 16 mil for an England regular is a good bit of business

I don't think the chopping and changing of positions and lack of a run in the team are helping him one bit.

Harsh to have a go at the lad. He's a solid player who gives 100% every week, we need this type of player in the squad and Bobby needs to figure out how to get the best out of him.

This ^

Milner has performed very well for a number of seasons. He plays in a number of positions and is a model pro off the field.

It really is not Milners fault the fee we wanted to pay for him. We have helped keep Villas finances very healthy by signing two above average grafters who have a fee attached to them purely because of their nationality.

Ireland had one good season in four and has been found to be not up to it for a mid table premiership side (which is all we were in his one good season) now he is not in his comfort zone. Off the field the guy is a liability and it would surprise me if Ireland is still playing football at 30.

what's "England regular" got to do with it, England are shit. Milner has been very disappointing so far. He just doesn't seem to be able to cope with passing the ball on the ground. Was much more effective playing in a non-passing team. We paid well above 20m for a player that simply doesn't fit into our team.

Where does the blame for that lie?

In terms of goals and assists, he was top of the tree in the Prem last year.

Hard to say where the blame lies. Our signings seem to be a negotiation between Marwood and Mancini, Balotelli would most definitely be Mancini's choice but the rest of them it's open to debate who's choice they are!

Are you suggesting we should play a Villa style kick and rush game to get the best out of him? He is a decent enough player but surely not one that we would be wanting to build our team around!

Of course I'm not suggesting we play kick and rush or that we build our team around the lad. You're being silly.

I just think the criticism is harsh and that he has done enough in recent years to suggest that he is a very good player and that we need to look at other factors for his under par performances this season. His price tag should be disregarded, it has fuck all to do with him, he hasn't been played in the position in which he produced his best football and he hasn't had a run of games.

Having signed him, and I'm working on the basis that Bobby is calling the shots, Mancini needs to decide what to do with Milner.

If you think Bobby is completely calling the shots on our signings then you haven't been paying attention. He has a major say for sure, but so does Marwood.

We're too quick to judge new signings. There's been a thread on each of them with a percentage of people writing them off. I've seen players in the past, better than Milner will ever be, playing a lot worse than him in his 1st half season.

Agree that we are way too quick to judge new signings but the amount of time taken to settle needs to be related to the amount of Prem experience and the age of the player. Anyone writing off Boateng or Balotelli at this stage is a fool but Milner has been playing in the Prem for eight years so should be able to perform well really quickly. He may simply be unsuited to our style of play. Hopefully he can adjust and become an asset.
