Would banning guests from viewing topics and things work? I know you can't view off topic unless you're registered.

It would help with the bandwidth situation but, personally, I would hate to do it. I have seen other forums where you can only view if you log in and I think it would put a lot of people off. Not many people would bother to create an account if they can't see the site's content before hand.

As far as I'm aware, things like pictures and embeded youtube links act as links to the hosting sites and do not affect our bandwidth usage, can anybody confirm this?

Thats exactly what i thought pal.

I thought it used a tiny amount to communicate with Youtube then thats it,the video isnt hosted n MCFANS.NET SERVER.


Also i know it's been said to be a no no but a small advert on the site will help a lot with up keep costs those over on bluemoon dont seem to mind.

How about deleting old threads sooner? I know its nice to look back occasionally but will anyone really mind if they cannot see what someone said about Jo a year ago???
At the moment it goes back to Aug 09. Maybe set it to auto delete threads made 12 months or more (if you can do that??). May free up some storage space.

Suggestion:

Keep the site free, but have VIP status or similar, which would give access to extra features, like signatures, avatars, PM's, etc.
The VIP status could cost a tenner a year or so. The site would function perfectly for anyone who doesn't wanna fork out, but I'm sure quite a lot of people would be prepared to pay for the extras the VIP status brings.

i think we all know the simple answer...it's the Elephant in the room as they say.

By User if we look at bandwidth usage/posting value ratio i'm sure OD's at the top of the list with a very large number...ban him and we're sorted.

What about reducing the image quality of the fixture list? I'm guessing it's over 500k as it is, and, say, 20 checks a day at that size would equal 10mb bandwidth eaten up. I may have my figures and general nous of how bandwidth and the internet work, but surely it's worth looking in to?

Also, how hefty is the new banner at the top compared to the previous?
