Yes, he'd be good for marketing, probably in the top 10 in the world, at a guess, although a lot of that comes from fans in Asia wanting a Liverpool shirt. If he moved, they wouldn't necessarily change clubs, sertainly not to the tune of £50m worth.

I still expect Tevez to leave in summer and in that case, we may be interested in Torres, however, I can't see us getting him now and I'm not sure how he could play with Dzeko, unless we went to 4-4-2, as both are the out and out striker. If Mancini thinks he could get it to work, I wouldn't be surprised to see us bidding against Chelsea, however, for a transfer to be completed in summer, if Torres proves his fitness. It seems to be an open secret that he will be allowed to Leave liverpool if they don't make the CL, so he's going at some point, but they need him for the rest of the season, especially if they don't get Suarez. From our perspective, his injury record is a big risk. If he can play the majority of games for the rest of the season and get back to scoring, then he'd be worth the money Liverpool undoubtedly want for him.

Top 10???

He is easily in top 3. Probably second behind Messi. As far as marketing goes, he is as good purchase as we could get.

If this is the case, Top 10 or even Top 3, isn't this the sort of signing we should be chasing?

The other alternative is, as people keep refering to Carlos leaving, that we have approached them for a summer move for big money if he gets his form back?

Probably yeah. The shirt sales and extra coverage would pay the money back in no time. And signings like Torres are key to breaking into far east markets.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I just feel there's more to this than meets the eye. We want global domination, try to pay 100 mil for Kaka et al, yet we'd let someone like Torres go so easily?

Unless Mancini's not interested of course.

Why, have we bottled it ;-)

No, I agree, but unless Mancini doesn't want him I reckon we would pay good money for the right person, especially if it's in the region being talked about.

The thing that's getting me is how/why are Chelsea now linked to all these players. 50 mil here, 20 mil there, why now, especially considering they have now turned it around (according to media sources)? Surely they would've gone into the market while in their slump, not a week before the window shuts; it's probably the best way to get bummed.

They are in danger of not qualifying for CL which would be disastrous for them!!

Honestly I'd be disapointed if we let Chelsea get Torres... he is a risk due to injury history but IMO better for us to take the gamble now before the financial rules come in and maybe loose cash than risk Chelsea having a new top top striker.

What has become really clear is that Chelsea are only gonna spend about 50m. this window, they tried getting two for the price of one from Atletico, that did not work out, then they tried a top defender in Luiz, when that failed they went for a striker in Torres.

Man, imagine if we ended up with both Torres and Luiz this window... that would be crazy:P (Not gonn happen I know).

Trying to appease the fans?

Wait a minute, if they play him, won't they owe us money?

Suarez is a good signing and paired with Torres will be a really good partnership.

The question is can they keep hold of Torres? , if they do, do not under estimate the Dalglish factor.

It is in their make up.

Torres is off at the end of the season. He's not prepared to accept another season out of the Champion's League. Frankly for all the talk of King Kenny it's unlikely they'll make Champion's League in 2012. NESV will hope for £50 million from us in the close season and they may get it if Tevez disappears to Real in the Summer.
