FA Cup Draw

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

We beat Everton in the Quarters on the way to Wembley in '81. 2-2 draw at their's followed by a 3-1 win at Maine Road.

I think it's an excellent draw, we've now got through home/away draw stages of the cup with home draws, only neutral grounds left.

Plus either Rags or Arsenal a gonna.

Only 12 teams left on the dancefloor and we are one of them. Opportunity Knocks, as the reality is we would only have to beat 1 of the other top 5 teams in order to win this competition. Over to you City, the chance is right there in front of you.

And as a side note, for Cup games why don't we stick the away fans on the East Stand 3rd tier up in the gods - enough seats for them up there and would reduce their impact. Just a thought.

Our main and only focus, should be Aris.

To clarify I mean main focus FA Cup-wise. Agree Aris is now the mosgt importnat game in our season. To use a famous anology from Bob Paisley, the next game is the most important one.

spot on piccs - we don't have to face any of the other top six until the semi at the earliest - and none of them after. the cup should be ours.

I wouldn't go as far as saying the cup should be ours but couldn't really hope for better draw at this stage. Both Villa and Everton will be concentrating on other things and neither really have the talent to match us IF we are in full flow.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Is Bent cup tied for Villa?

Can't ask better at this stage than a home fixture so both Villa and POTENTIALLY Everton are win-able - accepting recent form against Everton, although Villa might be thinking the same about facing us.

I'm delighted with the home draws but Villa will be well up for it & Everton & their fans will treat it like a cup final. Assuming we get past Villa, we need every player & fan 100% up for that Everton game or we'll be going out of the cup & it won't even be close.

Yeah but point was that the draw was as good as it could've been imo.

Two home ties against two average sides is all that keeps us between and a semi final. .

Mind you, the last time the road to the final came as clear as this for us we lost to West Ham in the quarter finals.

Just about as good a a draw gets...Spurs, Chelsea out and the rags and Arsenal go head to head.
I don't go with bogey teams and what happened in the past is dead and gone. We can beat any team at home. Villa and Everton are beatable.

Just for the record,

1904...City FA Cup Winners...Round 2...Woolwich Arsenal...won...2-0.
1934...City FA Cup Winners...S/Final....Aston Villa...........won...6-1.
1956...City FA Cup Winners...Round 6...Everton..............won...2-1.
1969...City FA Cup Winners...S/Final....Everton..............won...1-0.

We've done it all before....Why not now?

Why is everyone presuming it'll be Everton? They're not playing great atm and Reading are a decent side

Mate - I'm losing sleep over this... seriously.

Could I really really stand losing at wembley to them? (this would shatter my heart into a million pieces.)
would it be better to go out in semis to them? (obviously not)
dunno how to say this without sounding negative!
someone help please!

I can see Arse taking nited back to the Emirates and doin em. As for us, its payback. Villa have been unconvincing all season and were ebvene crap when we lost to em. Scouse2 have struggled to win away all season. As long as we concentrate for the first 20 we'll be fine, assuming they get past Reading that is. 2 home ties against teams we should have no problems getting fired up against. We couldn't ask for any more at this stage.
Balotelli......that's a brilliant finish.

the draw is favourable, but there is so much football to be played between now and a final. All the talk is premature. Let's go win the next one vs Villa and see who's after that. One match at a time please.

cheers

I agree with this DM....if you believe that the cup belongs at COMS, it doesn't matter what the draw is or who plays who, the end result will be same. So, one game at a time is the healthiest approach.

If this was a couple of years ago, the Villa and Everton draws would have scared me in my boots. But we have owned
Villa recently, and I am sure that if we play our Grade 'A' game against Everton we can defeat them. One thing I know, after watching
the Arsenal match, we have to play better n'that!!
